New to a LCC but also have a LNC 2.0...Recommendations?

Getting back into RC's after years of being away. I played with the touring car scene / Nitro back in the early 2000's. Went to Motoramma in Harrisburg PA in Feb...saw everyone playing with the LNC and ECX Tempers and decided the kid and I needed one.

My son is bored with his 1/18 ECX Temper and always wants to play with my LNC 2.0...found a reasonable deal on a practically new LCC...so time for him to get the LNC and me to build my LCC.

Here is current state;

Opened the axles, worms look new and were greased well (even have the set screw mod to allow regreasing), they are stock worms. Opened up the Dig, not a mark on the gears, refreshed the shocks and added Comp Crawler Carbon Low Profile Servo Mount.

It came with a Losi Dig Servo and New High Torque Steering Servo, just not installed. The wheels/tires that came are JConcepts Rocx's but they wheel don't properly fix the LCC...they only allow a thread or 2 for the nut...

Now it's time for me to look for a motor combo...

I'm not going to do comps, it's for playing with my kid and I don't want to spend a crazy amount of money. Looking to go brushless, probably 17.5 sensored equivalent...thoughts?
 
most of the time you get what you pay for. a good/ best setup is a 13.5 t sensored brushless. with a decent esc of course.

some of my motors for 1/10th scale cost up to $130 a piece.
 
Olle has some good information in the first post of this thread. The biggest enemy in the Losi is heat/friction.

Theres a ton of useful information in his thread and many others from years prior.

13.5 and 17.5 motors are ideal for brushless setups. Sticking to some of the more popular name brands is a good idea. You can find lessor expensive ones through places like RCMart or even Hobby King. they'll work well and save you some coin until you feel its time to upgrade.

The truck may feel frustrating at first but give it time and keep trying new things and practice ..... it really is a great rig for the shafty class type trucks. In the competition world I feel like it will still out perform others but its not given enough credit. "thumbsup"

17.5 might seem a little slow for him.. so I put down 13.5 as a good sped/torque suggestion. also different motors can use the same rotor. trinity d4 cans can use a "short stack" rotor. it has more torque.

duratrax DE-10 is a good and easy to use esc. I have 6 race rigs with them. good esc's

In my opinion - No, it was just a selling point. Things were a little different with them such as bigger rotors or esc settings but nothing that justified buying specifically labeled 'crawler'.

Nailed it! Something with a strong 12.5mm rotor or ability to change rotors ..... and a reputable esc that you can change the settings on.

Thank you...this whole time i've been searching for a "crawler" brushless system thinking there had to be major justifiable difference, but reading mixed reviews on the systems.

Oh i've been thru the guide and glad I did. We have the LNC 2.0 and tore it down to grease up those worms good. Probably ran 30+ packs on it and the worms look almost like new yet.

It probably doesn't get enough credit due to the high maintenance of the worms.
 
I ran a tekin rs and tekin 13.5t sensored brushless motor and I loved that setup.

If I was to buy another brushless setup today. I would go with Holmes Hobbies. He makes some great stuff

Also, on that lcc get rid of the 25:1 worm gears and find you a set of the HD worms (21:1) that come in the LNC's. OR, if you can hunt them down. DLUX chromoly worms were the bee's knees.

Also, make sure you have the v3 CVD's in that LCC. (They have the spring around the cup to hold the pin in.)



The rest is really tuning what you got and some upgrades here and there. Dlux just came out with some pretty sweet knuckles,

I run a mmp and roc 412 3100kv in my lnc and love it. But now I'm going to run a holmes 540 stubby 3300kv. You should check out his stubby size, he also has lower kv verisons too. If you really want a cheap setup, hobbywing esc with a cheap 50 dollar motor from ebay.

I have 2 New in Package sets of the HD worms...With the LNC 2.0, I purchased 2 spare sets right away in case of failure after reading the posts. So far, keeping them greased, no problems.

Was thinking of putting 1 in the front of the LNC, get the overdrive and easier steering I keep reading about.

Dlux has some good stuff! :shock:

I believe LNC's came with the HD worms from factory...So you'd have to put one of the LCC worms in the rear axle of the LNC...But the 25:1 worms that came in the lcc like to wear out quickly.

I guess I should say the newer LNC's. Like the 2.0 you have.

That was a typo...I meant LCC. Yeah the LNC 2.0 we have came with a front/rear HD worm setup.

I rotated the driveshaft and counted turns...the LCC I have has the stock 25:1 worms.
 
A little more work done;

Black Chrome Comp Crawler Wheels with JConcept Tires. I put 4oz in the front and 2.5oz in the rear to start. Installed the JX Servo that I was given...PDI-6221MG.

Also picked up a fresh body to paint...thinking white/blue with smoked windows.
