So i am very new to rc cars and trucks and i want to get into it. I am also very new to this forum so if i did something wrong im sorry. I have a relatively large area of woods to use an rc car in and want to make a trail for it. I also have a large area of non off roading land and would want to drive it on there too. I have been looking at two models of cars. the first is the Twin hammers. I like the crawlability of it. I do like the speed of it given the category of rc car it is. I have also been looking at the Axial exo terra buggy. I really like the speed of it and i like the fact that it is pretty good at off roading. The reason im not just going with the exo terra buggy is because i think i might regret not getting something that can handle bigger terrain. I really do like speed and i know i will not settle for something that is not fast. I was wondering what you guys think i should go with?

I think the EXO Terra has the least terrain crossing ability of the two mentioned, but there are other options...

Axial Wraith can be made to run really fast, but needs some expensive upgrades to do so without breaking down.

Your best option, in my opinion, would be a Traxxas Summit 1:10. That's pretty fast and crawlable out of box, and can be made to run even faster with some upgrades.

I think the twin hammer may work for you but I fear it will be a bit too involved for a new comer to the hobby. The twin hammer is complex and harder to work on that other models and,in my most humble of opinions, isn't build to handle abuse like most hobby grade RCs. That's unfortunate since it's an awesome model!

I agree the Wraith is a great platform and it's quite fast for a trail/rock rig right out of the box. Adding a mild brushless setup will give you a ton of speed without requiring the "expensive upgrades" to keep it going. Most models in the industry require upgrades to make them bulletproof so you will never escape that aspect, keep that in mind.

I would have to say, either the Twin Hammer or Wraith for your terrain.

Congrats on your future purchase and welcome to the addiction!!

P.S. The only thing you have done wrong is apologize!! :)

Thanks guys! i did look into the wraith and watched a few reviews on it. The one by Jang really turned me off from it because he said you really cannot turn at high speeds and that is something i definitely will want to be doing. so i guess im stuck... hmmmm

Perhaps a trail truck or a crawler isn't what you want to bash with..Even race trucks and buggies have a limit turning depending on speeds.

A wraith is the better speed choice if you want something to bash and crawl with...But if you bash hard you better have a lot of money to replace a lot of parts.

Jang is a turd and he doesn't talk about upgrades, he only talks out of the box builds.

If you want to wraith to handle better, soften the springs and add axial bead locks wheels to it(they have a natural offset). The Wraith is a rock racer not a short course truck. If you're looking for something that wont traction roll right out of the box, you want a twin hammer. If you're thinking about doing upgrades to make the truck better in the long run, do yourself a favor and get a wraith.

Ultimately, get the one you think is the coolest and fix what you don't like about it after the purchase.

IMO, these guys are all right. My suggestion is get a crawler or scaler (your choice but, I'd stick with Axial) AND get a Slash 4x4. I have one and when I wanna bash or just plain go fast (mine does almost 90mph on 3s batts AND the right surface/wind conditions... it tends to lift), that's what I pull out. It's also fairly cheap to rebuild when I do break stuff. I have to replace the body 3-4 times a year but, when you pull 15' jumps off the 1/4-pipe at the skate park you kind of have to expect some damage.

Jang is full if crap. Lower it, get you cog down, and you can hang with some short courses's
