Newbie looking to get bead locks

I have a defender and I’m looking to get some wheels, I like the stock tires but looking for better wheels. Can I just take the tires off the stock wheels and mount them to bead locks or do I have to purchase new tires as well?

The stock tires are glued to the wheels, so you’ll need to remove that glue first. There are a few methods of doing that. Some folks bake them, some boil them. There are other methods, all with varying degrees of effectiveness.

In my opinion, this is your chance to experiment with another tire. That way you can still have your stock Traxxas combo also.

With a heat gun and a gentle approach you can get those tires off of the plastic wheel. The off-gassing makes the process a less than pleasant experience however. I have done it and may yet do it with another set. I like to save a buck here and there. I like the Canyon Trails. Especially with the tread blocks trimmed open. It’s a hobby so I put in the effort.

i leave the tire out in the sun for a few hours on warm days the glue comes right off
be carefull though the trx4 and 1.9 wheels dont always play nice together

A warm day where he lives (Massachusetts?) is not likely to be like a warm day in the Mojave, where I'm pretty sure you've mentioned living.

I know, because I was stationed at Twentynine Stumps back in the early '80s, when I was in the USMC.

Where I live I would likely have more luck sticking them outside in the winter to freeze and then knocking the tire glue off of the wheels with a hammer:ror:

its true 100°and %15 humidity is much better than 100° and %98 humidity they get back east nothing like getting slaped in the face with a boiling hot wet towel for just opening the door

heck i would rather be at my place in johnson valley when its 100 out than at my other place in the bay area any time of the year

when i lived in yosemite the temps were with in 5° + or minus a few degrees there as it is here

29 yuccas has higher temps than were im at by a long shot about 20° differance at times even though im a stones through from the base our elivation is alot higher on this side of the valley

how true is that just one more reason to stay away from that poop hole

but anyway the sun worked there too if it got hot enuff

it also depends on the glue used not all superglues are created equilly

I agree. Here in Ohio we can and do get unbearable humidity. Not as bad as Florida, but damn near!

I remember back in '93, I got sent out to Mesa, AZ for a week for work. Had to work outside everyday. It was about 98 degrees with very little humidity everyday. I remember it actually felt very comfortable for being 98 compared to the high humidity in Ohio. I'd take the Arizona weather any day!

I just put a set of bead locks on my Deadbolt and realized I am old AF and can't see anymore Took me over an hour to get it right and had a massive headache after I was done; LOL I need a magnifying light to work on these damn things Carry on.
