What brand batteries you guys running? 2s or 3s? Mah? Also what chargers you recommend. Looking more for a decent budget one.

So IM considering the Gens Ace 5000mah 2s for my battery and the Tenergy TB6B balance charger. Any FEEDBACK on these would be greatly appreciated. Also if I ran the Gens Ace id need a male dean to female traxxas connector CoRRECT??

Also am open to any suggestions you may have...

Thanks in advance...

At times forums are like crockpots, you just have to let stuff simmer for a while before you get anything good out of it...

With that...

Gens Ace are ok. Out of six packs, I have had two fail on me, that made me VERY worried (internal wiring failures, luckily opens and not shorts). But the four packs I have left have worked very well for a few years. I am looking at buying new packs now and have heard nothing but good things about SMC packs, so I will be buying a two 2S, and two 3S packs.

You can pick your connector with SMC packs. I think you can do the same with Gens Ace, but you can run an adapter. The best thing to do is to get the correct plug on the battery, giving you less loss, one less failure point, cleaner wiring, and one less thing to futz with when you are hitting the trail.

+1 on the SMC packs.

My 3S 4500 mah SMC pack has a lot more power than my Protek 3S 3600 lihv pack.

With the Protek pack being a lot newer than my SMC, the Protek pack has more than double the IR....

I'm running zippy compact 2700mAh 60c 3s softpacks from hobbyking, they give approx 1.5 to 2 hours drive time or i use 5800mAh Zippy compact 3s 65c. zippy compact are cheap and very reliable the 5800 i use now for 2 years with no issues (run them in my yeti and trex).

As for charger i use a skyrc D100V2 round 100$, it's a dual (2*10A) ac/dc charger with all features you need for lipos incl. measuring internal resistance to test the lipos.

Any 25c 2 to 3s pack, even a hobbyking/turnigy one, is fine. The thing is, crawlers/trailers with their gear-ratios don’t need that totally-last-bit-of-peak-amp that buggies or touringcars want for their insane Kv brushless motors. Added to that, even a humble 2200mah zippy runs my stock-motored TRX -Tarr smoke generator, gt-power 30w soundmodule and a weighty Visaton 10w 8ohm speaker- for at least half an hour. The 5800mah Traxxas battery never even got entirely drained. Usualy after an hour of running, I call it quits.

I use a mish-mash of Gensace, Traxxas, Zippy, rcplus and dynamite packs. Áll performed well. I dó prefer hardcases, though, just for that extra bit of “bouncing resistance”
