I picked up a Novak The Goat crawler brushless ESC/Motor system from my LHS. Seems like a good setup. The BL motor is 18.5T. The ESC can support up to 2S Lipos. Now I'm from the old school pre brushless days and I'm a bit worried this motor will not be slow enough. I'm planning on using 5000 mah nickle 6 cell batteries. I do not want to use any GRU. Is there anyone out there who has or has used the Goat system?

Hi8)

I have not tried the system you are referring to. There should be a KV-number on the motor. This number is, if I'm not mistaken, the RPM your motor would get at 1V. This number can then be compared to that of other motors in known setups, to see if yours will be faster or slower. If the battery setups are similar, two motors with same KV-number should ideally propell the same car equally fast.

Curious: Why not use a GRU? I'm currently working on a project which is an opposite extreme; A 5.5T Motor. Did some testing today, and its _WAY_ to fast.

Sorry for not answering what you really asked for...

For starters the 21.5T motor will be way too fast in CC01. Imagine the stock brushed motor in it. Also is the brushless motor sensored or unsensored as this will make a huge difference when you want to "crawl". The sensored motors are lot better at lower rpm and will not cog whereas the unsensored will cog when you want to go slow and not be good for precise slow movement. At full throttle the 2 types will be very similar but with crawling it is all about the slow speed. As with the goat which version have you got as from memory they handle both brushed and brushless but come in 2S or 3S variants.

Sorry for the double post.

Yes it's the sensored Novak 18.5T motor pre-wired to the Goat 2S Crawler ESC. It came from Novak as an entire system. I set it up with the 16T pinion and it's connected to a Spektrum SR300 RX. I should be able to get it running after my 5000 mah nickle 6 cell arrives from Hobby Partz. I plan on soldering on Deans plugs instead of the Tamiya plugs. I always use Deans on all my RC trucks. The instructions state there are four pre programmed crawler settings with the default set to standard crawler with fully adjustable drag brakes. Only issue with the Goat ESC is it can not be programmed through a PC. It's all by the button and LEDs. I also have a couple Gen Ace 2S Lipos enroute to use in this and my other trucks.

Here is the system:

I only paid $88.00 new from my LHS.
