I was curious to see how many gates a typical scale crawler course has. I am thinking of helping a buddy build a crawler course in his backyard and wanted to set up some gates but needed to know how many to use.

Thanks in advance,
Kenneth

depends on the size of the course and how many guys show up.. my friends and i get together every second sunday at a friends indoor course and usually set up 10-13 gates when like 6-10 guys show up.... at my house outdoors we have way more room so we'll add more gates.. we'll do 2 runs each in forward and have a vote to see if we want to do the course backwards.. most of the time we do..

when you guys setup a course and moving rocks around make sure the obstacle is driveable both ways makes for a funner course.. sometimes we setup the course so its easy between the gates but the challenge is getting through the gate.. sometimes its opposite, getting between gates is hard and through gates is easy.

For our last scale comp we had 10 +1 bonus on the first course, and 40 +2 bonus on the second. The 10 gate course took anywhere from 5min to 17min and the second took over 30min to complete. Everyone seemed to like the longer course much better. So it seems that more gates equal more driver satisfaction. We didn't have time limits, time was only considered in case of a tie. But, time limits are needed if you have a large number of competitors on a given day. We had a rain scare that day so it was not necessary.
