Drove the little Nylint rig this morning in the backyard on the little course. It's crazy what happens when you don't drive any trucks on your little rock/dirt pile for a few weeks, things tend to grow fast

Anyway... After running a couple packs through the Nylint rig in it's stock form I found that I did need to soften up the ride to help flex. I have also noticed that some of that famous "Clod Stalling" effect can be seen on this rig. I've only heard gears grinding once out of the rear axle :)

1 - Cut about 3-4 rings from the springs at all corners.
2 - Added a RCCrawler.com sticker, adds 10hp from what I've read :flipoff:
3 - Learned that you have to feather the throttle in a on, off, on fashion to get it to run smooth'er.

Few pics from my small run, all driven, no poser shots:

I still need to remove the roll cage so I can paint it black to get a more realistic looking body/tub.

I am getting one of these for my b-day looks fun! :) I have a question=can you charge the batterys on a real charger at like 1.5 volts? would it charge faster?

I plan to swap in Deans plugs onto the truck and battery so I can charge it with my normal charger. The pack is just AA sized batteries, and I assume that they are NiCd rather than NiHm, mostly due to the cost of the RTR little truck.

Would I be able to put like say a 1900 pack on, that I use on my E-Maxx. I'm assuming that you'd use a single one. If not, is the battery that comes with able to be recharged on the normal charger that you'd use?

Fitting Sub-C size cells into this thing is the hard part. The pack that it comes with it is a 7.2 AA size 650mAh NiCd pack. Quite compact. On a full charge I get about 30 minutes of run time. High gear isn't really worth anything unless it's used on the street but the locked/spooled axles don't allow easy driving on pavement. Low gear in the dirt is pretty fun.

I charge mine on my peak charger. Charge at 2 amps, 650 Mah, takes about 30-40 minutes.

Toyo, I did the same mod on the springs. You can also rotate the center caps on the rims (with a pair of needle nose pliers) counter clockwise about 1/8 turn and they come off for easy access to the screws holding the tires on. Should make cuting them a little easier. Just some of the "tricks" I've found.

Also, check all the screws, about 1/2 of mine were loose.

I've already pulled the tires/wheels while waiting to play yesterday. I don't plan to cut my tires. Then the scale-ness of this little rig would fade for me. I have to keep it at the "fun" level... no serious mods as I don't plan to put any money into it. :)

I did tear down a bit of the body to give it some touches.........

This thing is a lot of fun to drive. It's taking away Maxx and TLT build time though :? Oh well, I guess I still have until the 14th to have the Maxx up and running

Well, you have more self control than I do. I did some minor trimming.
Half way:

Done with one:

Done and remounted.......backwards:

Poser flex? Thats a kong in the background for comparison: Thats roughly 4.25" of flex baby!

It actually made a big difference in traction. Most of the problems I was having were ledges where going at an angle were near impossible. Now it grabs and climbs up. I am considering painting mine, just unsure what color. I like the black cage!

For only $44.72 (no sales tax here in OR) I'd say well worth it. 1/2 hr charge time, for the same fun time. Granted they have their minuses, they are tons o fun! IMO.

Granted I probably should have used the money towards parts for my twin force.......

So are these things worth the money, guys?

For the price, yes. If you want something to just have simple fun with then I highly suggest ya get one. Once you cut the springs down the small crawler improves a good amount.

For the price it's a ton of fun..... not sure how long they will last with constant abuse. They are quite loud in low gear. I have to run mine outside per orders of the wife, I guess it's too loud for her.

I hear you! To think I went out and bought 2 of them  :? I could have, should have spent my money on more parts for the Maxx truck but this little truck is too much fun.

Best part is now my nephew doesn't have to ask to drive my crawlers since he has the tuber Nylint. I even hooked his up with some RCC decals too so he can feel cool.

I'm totaly down with a Spec Nylint Class for competitions. It'd be a terrific way to get nebies into crawling, while everyone would have the exactly same setup rig.

My wife looks at me when I run mine. I know what she's thinking, she just hasn't said anything......yet.

I am going to come up and run in a comp when the twin is done. I'll bring this too! I've been trying to get Rick to get one, but he just bought another rig so he's claiming he has no money now. Gotta get his priorities set right!

I have always liked the Jeep Alot more. Did you give your Nephew the Crawler yet? That will me a blast driving with him.

Good Luck, Cya

Damn toyo now i have to spend some more money at Toys 'R Us :flipoff:

Does Toys R Us carry the Nylint/Funrise rock crawlers? I was under the impression that only Wal-Mart had them....Might have to go buy another :-P

I picked one up a couple days ago and these 1/18th scale ones are WELL worth the $45! I took out the springs and it flexes great and crawls pretty well for what it is.

The first mod I did was to upgrade the battery pack. I took 6 NoMem 2000 Mah AA's and soldered them together like the original pack is. My run times should be well over an hour now.
