Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

Went and rode thunder Mountian close to Bryce Canyon with my son. 17.3 miles with 1945 ft of climbing and some fun downhills.

You guys have some stones riding on the edges of what looks at times to be bottomless cliffs, awesome stuff.

Nothing fancy, just bombing down some fun singletrack.

So one of my buddies took me for for yet another EPIC day in DuPont Thursday. I simply cannot get enough of this place! This was my first time on that side of the forest, and my first trip up Cedar and Big Rock. I have to say that those two for me, were beyond breathtaking. They're a bike version of a religious experience IMHO. Here's a bunch of pics. I have video, but it's going to take some time to go through it all and get it put together.

Oh yeah, the 29er hasn't been left out with the new SS build. It got a new fork, and a new gravity dropper seatpost. After this ride, I'll never have another MTB without a dropper post again, but, YMMV.

EDIT:

I almost forgot; we ended the day with Pescado's take out and live music by Eric Congdon and beers at Oskar Blues.

Amen to that x2, church of the mountain bike makes me feel all new, peaceful and at one with nature. 8)"thumbsup"

And yes those are epic pics and the ride with meal afterwards looks epic too.

Thanks Nate, it's my favorite set of trails so far. Looking to move that way next year possibly.

And it's been another great couple days in the cycling world for me!

I met up with my friend Jeff for a Tsali loop yesterday. The weather, and trail conditions were absolutely perfect. I did a new trail that I had never done, and did right loop in a different direction that IMHO is more fun. It was great catching up with you, and a great ride, thanks Jeff! It was a faster pace than I'm used to, but I think I did alright.

This is probably about all the color we're going to get this year sadly, and the lot was twice as full when we started out

Great stuff Randy, I'm working on one more trip !

Thanks Mike! Give me as much lead time as you can on letting me know, and I'll try to get out of work for a ride day.

This was the most technical section on Left Loop, hate to see it had been dumbed down by the powers that be. All that rock you see left of Jeff was out onto the trail and you had to huck up and over and the penalty for failure was a dunk in the lake, that is if you cleared the rocks on the way down. :D

That section is still there pal, Jeff has some great pics of me cleaning it.......on foot.

Well, I left the SS at home today to ride my new wheels on the 29er. It's a like a whole different bike now. Shaved off almost .8lbs or rotating mass, wider footprint, fast engagement, and stiff. I love 'em! Only bad part is now I need another set for the SS. :D

Hit Jackrabbit with the usual suspects today and had a blast on the 29er and the new wheels. The bike feels a lot more lively and playful now, and corners much better too. The cornering is probably going to get me into trouble eventually when I find out just how deep I can push it before it lets go. I have tires on the way in a much better compound also, hopefully they'll be here on this week's order.

Here's a couple pics from today

It's like a Smoky Mountain Bicycles invasion on Jackrabbit

That's my buddy rupps5 up there and don't think it's been an easy path to get where he is. We rode together (fast as we could always) from the mid 90s, both became bike messengers and rode our asses off for years, and while I petered out he kept riding and is now training to win. It's been a long road.

As jobless boredom sets in and the weather goes to poop I have riding desires. I used to love riding these little trails back in the woods in the shittiest weather. I spent a couple hours today looking for my old Speedplay Frog clipless pedals. You'd think I'd have been smart enough to put em in the same bag as the shoes. Nah.

Gonna pick up some cheap WTB Velociraptors for about $16 a piece and go for a shit weather cruise here soon, I think. Old Cannondale Jeckll 900SL from forever ago. Tires are toast.

Getting closer to riding again! "thumbsup"

Too late. New Velociraptors incoming. Old school. I couldn't find any Specialized Ummagummas.

And, I found my pedals in with race car shit in the garage.

I couldn't find the old Contis we had either. Or the Geax with the green sidewall. Thus Velociraptor cause I always wanted to try those.
