a couple years ago at E-fest there was a UofI proffesor (wacky guy, known him for years) that built his own from bare components (no servos or factory motors, all home made). It could fit in your hand but was incredibly stable, to the point he was landing it in people hands and flying it to the ceiling.

that guys is a local here and he has all the cool shit, 250kmh + planes, huge quad copters to drop stuff, and ornithopters. what a lucky guy.
