Panther Cougars

why? well because on one of the tires I got the bead is probably more than a 1/4 inch too big. I can take the wheel and slide it through the tire without touching it. But its only one side of the tire. And there seems to be alot of flashing left on the tires, spent a good half hour trimming the excess rubber off the beads.

Ok that helps alot, I just found out that this was a issue with one of my club guys also, I will look into it.

Thanks, Torry

These tires are nice, but I think some people think they will instantly make them the best crawler ever. I think the tires are okay, but both times at comps I have put on my Claws. The tires just don't seem as planted or as consistent. I don't know how to explain it.

The best way I can explain it is to compare it to racing 8th scale buggy. The Panthers may get you fastest lap, but I feel the Claws would win a main by being more predictable over a long event. Not sure if that makes sense.

Anyway, I am running Red Reach hybrids front and Pink Reach Hybrids rear and sometimes feel like they lack a little traction....yes I said lack. I know people will jump on my for that, but that was my finding. I will try adding a little more weight to see if that helps. I do like the extra height they provide and the side hilling seems fine.

That being said, with the Cougars I was able to make a climb I have never been able to make before. I will be interested to see if/when Panther releases a SS (Super Soft) compound and if they release a Super tire.

No that makes sense. But, you only get one lap in a comp, so it better be your best one eh? ;-)

I will try adding a little more weight to see if that helps.

I run mine a little heavy I suppose, total for each front is at 14 ounces, and total for each rear is 10, and the four combined weigh more than the entire rest of my truck. And the whole truck is under 6 pounds. I feel mine are nearly glued to the surface, usually...

Try more weight.

Ok I talked with Panther today, and they think they know what might be causing the problem and will be watching for it.

If you contact panther they will replace the tire for you, tell them you got the word from me. sales@panther-rc.com or 866-700-8473
Thanks for the feedback.

The problem is driver...you are used to slipping and sliding of the Claws, so used to it you can't handle the massive traction provided by the Panthers.

Take some time and get them heavy and you'll hate the Claws.

I don't think "sliding" of the Claws is allowing me to make an extended climb every time that the Cougars just won't make. Also, have ran the Claws for 1 more battery pack than the Cougars, so not used to the Claws any more than I am used to the Cougars.

I don't like to run a lot of weight in the wheels, as I feel it can be bad for the handling of the rig. I will try adding some weight, but don't want to have each front wheel weighing over a pound, either. My fronts weigh 12.5 ounces and the rears are 9.5 ounces. I will try adding 1 ounce at a time to each front and see how I like it.

Thanks for the input and advice.

Just got my Cougars mounted up with stock foams. Did a quick little 2 minute run and they seem to initially destroy my Claws. Thats a foam/weight setup in my rig though. I had cut stock foams in the claws with 4oz per in the fronts. I run a really light droop buggy, rtr with the panthers on Proline BL and no weight is 4lbs 14oz. and with the Claws it was 5lbs 2oz weighted.

I tried the stock foams in one pair and the NTT All Weather Hybrid Reachs in the other with no weight. I did a quick line with the Hybrids in the front, then the rear. The stock foams work best so far for me. Got a comp on this weekend and we'll see how it works. For a quick test run, I'm liking the Cougars.

Just mounted my cougars with Trinity soft memory foams on my Mayhem DP's. One word ridiculous"thumbsup" Only tested them on my work bench and I'm laughing my but off:lol: The traction is nuts. I've seen them in action, but way different when there on your own rig. What is up with the red dot version? Are they way softer than these?

I am having a heck of a time getting the Cougars to mount up on my Mayhem DP's. I've gotten a couple of them to hold, but still have a couple that look ok, then I pull on them when I think I'm done and the bead pulls over 1/2 out.

Back to work, I guess...I wanted to run these before I take off for a week.

I've had the same problem on my MSD Rocksolids, pull out I'm running NWT #8 front adding 6 oz. #5 rear adding 3 oz. I really like the tires performance but I'm not crazy about the pull out. I was going to try them one more time on my MSD wheels and if I had problems I'd then try them in my Mayhem Phatties PapaGeno said he's been successful with his Mayhem wheels. If these got any softer I'd consider gluing which I hate.

Ordered mine w/Memory Foams, which are a first for me...squish characteristics are interesting.

I didn't do any trimming, and mounted them on stock axial wheels with only 3.5oz of weight.

I'm new to rc crawlin, and only have losi crawls to compare them to.

One thing I noticed after mounting them, was the slight tire-bulge from simply sittin.
kinda like a real rig, when aired-down before a run...kinda cool.

Panther definitely dumped a bunch of elastic ingredients into the Cougars, as the twisted sidewall were always getting my attention.

I don't think I like how the Cougars collapse when doing a steep climb...might try the crawls in the back next time.

Crawlin time was cut short, due to radio-batteries taking a dump...so I need to do more testing.

adding more weight to the wheels is also on the list...

try a stiffer foam in the rears if they are collapsing, stock foams can be too soft for certain rigs. "thumbsup" you just have to keep trying different setups until you find the one that works best for your truck. "thumbsup"

Are you trying the paint cap method? I did mine last night on dp's and I pulled on them pretty hard so I think they are holding. Will have to get them on the rocks to tell for sure. Good luck"thumbsup"

Finally got them all mounted and in place. Took me a while, but I found a method that worked for me on the Mayhem DPs.

I pulled the entire tire back to the opposite side of the wheel and then placed the ring on top. Then, I put 4 screws in equally around the tire, the 4 more the same way and tightened those down. After that I put the final 8 in and everything looked good and was seated well.

From a quick run the the back yard, I can tell that this is going to be a whole different beast that the Losi Claws on RC4WD beadlocks. The weight stays low and the truck just feels like it wants to stick instead of flipping. Can't wait to get out on the rocks this afternoon with it.

finally decided to mount mine up last night. Mounted them on some aluminum jps pro narrow beadlocks. used stock axial foam in the rear with no weight and kreepy reds in the front with about 2-3 oz weight added. went out on the little rock pile i have. i think the foams in the front are too soft, going to have to play around with them a little bit.

as far as a comparison to the losi's, i can't really make one since these are on a new truck and i'm still getting used to the droop suspension and brushless motor.

Well, I won our comp today with my cougers....... oh yeah, and 2nd and 3rd were cougers as well. There where lots of proline and losi tires there to, I don't remember where they finished. I think there will be alot of panther tires at our next comp.
