Hey guys have any of you ever done patina / rust ratrod paint jobs on inside of lexan body. Looking for some tips and techniques if anyone has any to offer.

I've painted 3 bodies on the outside so far, 2 of them in just the past few months. but I haven't had any issues, and it's pretty easy to do.

The trick is to have that first coat be a polycarb paint, in my case, I've used the Tamiya black, except for Stubby (the reg cab 11 super duty in the pic below) in which I used straight silver on the outside. (painted on the outside because it started as the Proline ext. cab for the Honcho, bedsides from the 08 crew cab body)

For the body of Farm Truck, Parma 57 Chevy (Norm, that's the one I got in the raffle of the last comp there at Taylor falls) I dusted red oxide primer on the inside, backed with silver. Then on the outside I used the black polycarb paint, then a fine texture paint, followed by the red oxide primer, black, white, then lastly the blue. Sanded with a bunch of 400 grit to get that weathered/faded look.

Both bodies don't have a lot of run time painted, but that doesn't mean I have been easy on them. lots of tumbles over on the rocks at Phil's Snowcrawl course. and no chipping or flaking paint, just scratches where it dragged hard on stuff.

Thanks that kind of gives me a couple of ideas. I was not thinking about painting the outside and the inside I was trying to make it more confusing than it needed to be if anyone else has patina examples I would love to see some more but I will Def search the formula as well

Not a crawler, but the same process as the old truck I did above. Tamiya Mini Cooper body on Vaterra Kalahari chassis

I did mine the way SuperDrty did his. Paint the inside of the body with a light coat of red, orange and then black. Laid down a darker shade of blue on the outside then the light blue you see. Wet sanded the finished product to show layers underneath. I found a product at Michael's that is like real iron dust paint. Apply it, let it dry then apply a second solution that oxidizes the paint. It's real rust on a plastic body!

I've had some really good results sponge painting the inside of lexan bodies. I use Createx Paints from Pat Catans or Hobby Lobby.

They have lots of metallic and transparent colors.

Generally, I use golds, oranges and browns for a rust effect. Back with silver. Then paint color on outside. Trail rash shows up rusty.
