So the guys at Chaotic Crawlers showed me their new chassis design (Switch Bodiless) a few months ago and asked if I would like to "switch" to the new design. 8)

Although I liked the design of the new chassis, my Chaotic "special" was working really well so I was a little hesitant. Then the whole carbon fiber, new link geometry, adjustable cab and just wanting to have a new shiny toy got to me.

Here's what I started with- Chaotic Crawlers "Special" chassis. This chassis has been good to me for this crawling season putting me in first place for the points series with one comp to go.

Here's what I have now- Chaotic Crawler's "Switch" chassis.

The beauty of getting this chassis is it took me less than an hour to transfer everything over from the "special" to the "switch". Same links and same shocks so it was just a matter of unbolting the old and putting them onto the new.

A couple of cool features on this chassis- One being you can "switch" the cab around for a different look or to suit your personal preference. I like the cab "forward" look better but I'll probably change it around when I get bored.

Another great idea is the one piece skid design. No more bottom mounting screws or posts to loosten up. Just a well thought out feature.

Everything went together easily on the new chassis. The fit and finish is perfect and the carbon fiber is very good quality.

Here's what I'm running on the new chassis.-
Chaotic Crawlers "Switch" chassis with aluminum hardware- http://www.chaoticcrawlers.com/chassis-switch.html

Chaotic Crawlers titanium link set- http://www.chaoticcrawlers.com/Special-links.html
The answers is yes, the links for the "special" chassis work for the "switch" chassis.

Electronics-
Dual Castle Sidewinder Micro ESC's
HiTec 7950 servo
Holmes Hobbies 16t CrawlMaster Pro motors
Castle BEC

Shocks-
Axial SCX- 50 wt all around with Losi Mini-T springs (silver) up front and Losi MRC (silver) in the rear.
Front shocks-2nd hole from the front- Upper set of holes.
Rear Shocks- 3rd hole from the rear- Lower set of holes.
Ride height is 3" at the front and 3 1/8" at the rear.

Links-
Front- 2nd hole from the bottom- Inner set of holes.
Rear- 2nd hole from the top- Inner set of holes.

With the new, light weight trend going on, I thought I would lighten it up a bit and see how it performed. I have no desire to get below the 5lb. range like a lot of people are doing so I was happy that it is sitting at 5.2lbs (from 5.7 lbs. previously). I lost about an oz. of weight in the chassis swap and another 3+ oz. in taking out the wheel weights from the DH wheels. The final oz. came in changing out the rear VP lockouts for the stock plastic ones.

So how does it work? I ran a few packs through it yesterday and I was very surprised, if not shocked at how great it did for the intitial setup. It felt very planted, controlled, it climbed great and flowed over the rocks extremely well. I can honestly say I was VERY HAPPY with how it worked. The few minor issues I had with the "special" chassis are now gone with the "switch".

Please enjoy my 2:00 a.m., rattle can paint job. Yes I know the flames are backwards on the roof and hood panels, thanks so much!

Looks good there Christopher. Looks like we're pretty close in our setups on this chassis but mine is SO much prettier.

Excited to see how these do this weekend.

Looks good chris"thumbsup"

I'm glad your digging it as much as I am mine.

I did notice you have the rear body panel spacer on the outside of the panel.
Though this will work just fine, it's designed to go inside the panel so you have a smooth transition.
I wouldn't want that little nipple getting caught on anything and holdIng you up.

Looks great! That is awesome how you just have to change the chassis if you already have the special :). I love the skid too. What is the weight difference between the two chassis?

an it just flat out works . the rear of the chasis just slide around on a rear burn now just amazing how it works

Chris maybe you should have taken the FULL hour to do the swap. :flipoff:

I was hoping no one would tell you about this so I could swipe that 1st place spot from you in the series. You better be on your game this weekend!

Im digging the paint job man good choice in colors. Oh and the chassis looks sweeeeeet

Thanks Dan! Even though that asshole Jim pointed out my flames are backwards. I'm not some "conformist" you know.

Amazing how we ended up with the same setup. So Strange.

Thanks Marc! So far the chassis is working great. Very smooth and easy to drive.
As stated earlier, I don't conform to society's rules of proper nipple placement and what not. I do what I want, when I want (it's changed now, thanks!)

Thanks!"thumbsup" It is a breeze to just change things over which is a huge plus.

Not gonna happen Hollywood. You will go home with a very nice SECOND Place trophy though.

looks awesome!

glad its just a "switch" from old to new..;-)

Thank you.

I am using a Rowdy Racing, behind the motor, battery mount. I don't like the battery exposed on the front axle and the skid is to small for a battery. This works perfect for me because it's protected and there's no sprung weight.

Looks pretty good. Who is going to drive it for you?:flipoff:

Miss you too buddy. :flipoff: You've got a P.M.

how muck nuck weight you running

I am running just the main, V.P knuckle weight with no extra rings. I am running DH and DHII wheels that are a little heavier than the SLW's so that adds a little weight too. So far it drives great with the weight where it's at now.

I'll get a total tire/ knuckle weight for you tomorrow.
