PC Sim Racing

I'll try to remember the distinction between Driving Sims and what the PC games I like to play are... ;-)

I'll post up in the Gaming thread or elsewhere!

"thumbsup"

Someday, perhaps - I'll have a spare room and spare cash for a true driving chair/wheel/pedals setup because even all that is less expensive than 1:1 racing.

Hopefully if all that "spare" stuff includes a significant other, she will be understanding!

(I'll just tell her it's either that or a club-spec Miata and track days)

:lmao:

It wasn't meant like that. I play lots of non sim stuff. Hell, we all play Spintires and love it. More just frustration in general with Forza. I love the series, and just wish they'd fix the wheel/FFB support in it. I'd buy every version they made if they'd just fix that.

No worries, wasn't offended - and I understand stuff clogging a thread that isn't quite in the same niche... "thumbsup"

Don't waste your time. It's the same crap we downloaded a while back. The Oreca isn't bad, but the DP is terrible.

o man i cant wait. looks incredible!
helmet view like PC! and hand movements with cockpit buttons?

They can do all of that, have day/night, weather, etc, but still can't fix the hand over hand animations? FFS :lmao:

Subie just ran a 6:57.5 around the ring in a "sedan".

Wait a sec, that's not the production car, that's a full on race car. WTF? It isn't the production car, so it's a BS record IMO and nothing more than a publicity stunt. Poor form Subie, poor form.

Yeah that's why I put sedan in parentheses. These car manufacturers are stretching the "production car" moniker quite a bit. Nonetheless it's an impressive time and a sweet-ass looking car! "thumbsup"

To me it shouldn't qualify for a production car record unless it's a full production car. The only exception being a tire change if needed. That's a damn GT class car in the video. Not really that impressive to me to be honest. Give me their budget and I can take a street car and make it that fast also. They also apparently only made 500 of the production RA series, which drives prices way beyond MSRP, and I hate that shit too. Subaru is really starting to disappoint me lately.

I agree. They should be production models. But then companies make homologation specials to skirt the rules.

ive seen some produciton car runs add a roll cage. im ok with that as its done for driver safetly.
it does add rigidity, but it adds ~150lbs too

but those cars still had full interior and otherwise factory stock. which is why i was ok with it

just noticed tons of non factory aero on that car too.
yeah no one will take that "record" seriously for a factory car if thats what they are claiming.
if they are simply claiming a "sedan record" then it falls under that

Can you imagine how many of those tacked-on rear diffusers would get crunched on the street? :lmao:

A lot of the aero could be factory, the RA has a pretty serious track oriented package much like the ZR1. But the totally gutted interior, Motec, racing seat, QR wheel, etc are all pure race shit.

After some digging, the car that set the record was designated as a one off race model the Type RA NBR. It was built by Prodrive, and put down over 600HP. So they weren't trying to fool anyone, it's all good. Their claim is the fastest four door at the ring, which is valid...I guess. Given this info, I'm anxious to see what makers like BMW, GM, Alfa, etc will do to top it. All of those makers have street sport sedans that get much higher marks than an STI in stock trim, not to mention a lot more power. But they weigh more, and the ring is a curvy winding bastard of a track, so the extra HP might not matter.

Works about like when I was big into moto and could run right with the sport bike guys on a supermoto that made 42HP. The secret is I never took them anywhere they could use all that HP to begin with. "thumbsup"

^^That's pretty cool!

I know it's still pre alpha stage, but ACC has a long ways to go to catch up to Pcars2 visually, especially in the wet. With the latest patch, Pcars2 livetrack is working better than ever when there's weather.

I drove some laps on Detroit Belle Isle last night. What a fun and challenging track! But in open practice it's tough to get in a complete lap without getting run into in the full session that I was part of.
