Summary: Looking for pinion gears that give full engagement with the spur gear. Also wondering if anyone is running metal spur gears?

I finaly stripped the main spear gear on my LCC. It was a slow degredation from day one running a pinion that didn't have full engagement on the spur gear. After 2 or 3 runs on my new LCC I noticed the metal pinion's teeth deforming the spur gear's plastic teeth. It made a ticking sound that progressively got louder until complete failure of the plastic spur gear (3 months of use).

I don't beleive there is anything wrong with the Losi design. I attribute this to improper setup and will most likely run another plastic spur gear.

A) Im looking for a good pinion that has full engagement.

B) Is anyone running the metal spur gears?

ive heard the losi pinions have good amount of contact and the metal idlers help rid of that problem but it will be louder because of the metal on metal

I've run a metal spur gear since July (after stripping out two plastic spurs) and I wouldn't say it's any louder than the plastic one. I throw a dab of Red N' Tacky grease on there and it works great.

I've also been using the Robinson Racing pinions with no problems but I'm going to try the Losi ones for a better fit.

Losi pinion with a hot racing stainless spur works great. With the Losi you really have to pay close attention the the gear mesh. Set it a little loose because as you tighten the mount screws down it will tighten the mesh at the same time as well.
