Product Review: RC4wd 1.9 X Locks Tires

With the ongoing growth of the 1.9 Comp Class, it was inevitable that RC4wd was going to make their best 2.2 comp tire in to 1.9. And I really thing they hit a home run with this one...

So lets get through the formal stuff:

Specification:

*Outer Diameter: 3.83" (97.5mm)
*Width: 1.41" (36mm)
*Inner Diameter: 1.9" (48mm)
*X3 Ultra Soft Compound
*Grey Foams

First impressions are great.

Its the Ultra Soft Compound, the gray foams (I have grown to like these) and the all so familiar tread.

Comparing them to the Claws that are on there now, you can see they are significantly taller.

They also have the side lugs that will help in grabbing hold of an edge.

The bead is great and just lays right in the grove. Maybe it is just the 1.9 size but wow what that easy to do.

Mounted up really changes the profile of these tires for the better.

My findings...

Height is perfect...gives you the clearance without giving up sidehilling supports The tread is a great combination of surface and lugs. The pattern gives you several edges to grab the surfaces and with the lugs, it help pull you up on those ledges.

I am really happy with the Gray Foams that RC4wd is including in the tires.

It was about 37 degrees and sunny. The first couple runs the tires were still warm from the house and didn't have mud on them.

I have a tri-axle of rock being delivered as soon as the ground freezes. I am going to try to get to The Crawl Space this week to get some better testing done.

Glad you like them!! I tweaked them alot with input from Tom and Rob from the original 2.2 X-lock I dreamed up, and I think these will do just as well! Haven't received my set yet to see in person.

Got to take them out on some real terrain...

All I can say is "Wow"

My first impression when I set them next to Old Man 52's rig is that they are tall and thin. This got me concerned on sidehilling stability.

Let me set the stage.

Location: The Crawl Space Indoor Crawling Facility
Terrain: Various Sizes of Rock, they let off dust and create a slick surface for any vehicle.
Challenges: Rock Dust, Slick Surfaces, Holes and steep verticals
Temperature: Constant 72 degrees

First run proved to be enlightening. The tires stick. The tread gives the perfect blend of surface contact and lugs for various terrain. The dust did not effect these tires, unlike the 2.2's.

See how the lugs do their job...They are siped from the factory.

The extra Height gives you the clearance you need.

Note the benefit on of the taller tires...no worries of plowing the axle...

This first pair are of an MRC with almost the same set up but with Chisels. The rig is a little lighter in the front.

Note the sidehilling in both...the X Locks are on rails...
