Proline Rock-Tek Tire Weight System

Interesting, pretty sure they got this idea from Boomslang. The price is a lot better than the DLux extreme loaded dice weight hangers. I assume they went with magnets to maximize compatibility an minimize additional vehicle changes to run the system, but it doesn't seem like a great solution since I can see the magnets releasing in situations where you are trying to bump up a steep climb.

I don't get all the preoccupation with the bearing. Do you guys worry that much about all the other bearings in your truck's drive train?

I don't have any other bearings on my RCs that are operated by gravity. The bearings in the axles, transmission, etc are all holding something that is moved by the power of the motor. Completely different.

My thing with the bearing is that it's what'll end up making or breaking the whole system. If it seizes for any reason then you've got not only a very unbalanced wheel but also a very unstable rig. I can't say that I see it being a huge issue, but due to it being in the wheel and the wheel being vented, I would not be surprised if a small amount of water seeps in and causes it to rust, or if some dust and dirt ends up clogging it over time. All of the other bearings in the truck are sealed away fairly well within the drivetrain, an they're also easier to maintain imo (and if they go bad or seize up I'll still be able to drive for a little while and it won't throw off the whole balance of the rig). Another issue that seizure would cause would also be more rotating mass on that one wheel, which could potentially break something if heavy enough.

My first thought on this product is that it’s a pretty cool idea if the magnets will keep the brass where you want it with no rotational mass. My second thought on the product was it would never last in my terrain here in Florida due to all the sugar sand That gets inside of my tires the bearing would be shot fairly quickly I believe.

I dont think the bearing is gonna be much of a problem unless someone is mudding their truck and not doing maintenance. And hopefully the people who do such things (like myself) have enough sense to know that this would be a poor choice of inserts for such a rig.

This is something that I'd try if it was given to me but I'm not going to spend the $$ on it....until they discontinue them and blow them out for 60% off.

I'm considering grabbing one for my TRX4 or 10.3, would be interesting to try out. As for the bearing it'll probably be fine, just that it'd be the main failure point before anything else. Since it's a comp thing I can't imagine it'll ever go out though, and I do maintenance on my rigs regularly so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I just want to play with it and an electromagnet mounted on the knuckle somewhere......................have have it hopping......

If I had any comp crawlers, I'd be interested in trying these. But all of my trucks are scalers, where these just don't make sense.

I like the idea of wheel weight, without adding rotating mass. That's innovative and I'm glad Pro-Line came up with these. I also like that Pro-Line seems to have heard the social media gripes, and already dropped the price by $25.

But I still think these are just a flash in the pan. They're a step in the right direction, but I don't believe they'll produce any performance benefit that one could isolate to coming directly from them. Especially with the loss of the foam in the front tires.

Portal axles, 2 in 1 brushless systems, high torque servos... they've stuck around. I doubt these weights will.

Where are you seeing the price reduction? They still show $99.99 for me.

Oh, maybe it wasn't a reduction then. I remember hearing they were $125 when information about them was initially released.

But if I'm wrong about that, then apparently no price reduction has occurred.

Maybe they were $125 and I missed that. I think $100 for 2 is still crazy.

Just watched the videos again, it’s not a bad concept in reality and the execution and placement is pretty good. I originally thought it was more free moving and the magnets were just indexing the inner housing. Still good for crawling but not for scale or trailing.
