Hi guys, I am new to crawling, but I have been in R/C for a few years now. I have tons of questions about the crawler. It has the yellow New Era Models cage on it. It has dual servos, a Lipo Tazer 10t speed control, a 55t integy motor, HPI crawler king transmission (I think?), and Pro-Line Moabs on some rims I have no idea what they are. My main question is I want to make it into a scaler style of truck with a little bit of comp capabilities. So, would I need to buy a new chassis? I also want different shocks, any suggestions?? Reply to this thread or txt/call me @ 217-343-8234....If someone is willing to I would love to have someone to turn to for ALL of my crawler questions. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks guys!

I have some pictures of the crawler but I can't post them. I can send them to whoever tries and help me. Thanks again guys!

This site has tons of tips and tricks. Great people and ideas. Looks like a ck trans. Prob best mod I did to mine is a 96t spur14t pinion

When I make this into a scaler, what frame should I use?? If I find it out soon my cage for this one will be up for sale/trade for some good 2.2 black beadlocks and good tires, a dodge or jeep body, shocks, and waterproof traxxas servos. Of course if you have all of that I will add some cash :)

Another question guys, what frame should I use on this build to replace my cage? By the way, when I start this build this cage will be up for sale.

Nrc560

It has the yellow New Era Models cage on it.
I'd think about keeping the chassis. It's a bit spendy and out of stock now. Cost me a little over a hundred to have mine shipped up from the states.

You could just throw a body on top and call it good. I wrapped my NRC560 in glow wire. Looks pimp at night 8).
The chassis is okay at crawling due to its 60/40 setup. But the hangup I have with it comes down to battery placement. Not much you can do about it though. As for toughness this chassis can take some major abuse. The one I received. Has fallen off mountain ledges multiple times, and not bent warped or cracked. The sweet spot about the NRC560 is your link and shock mount possibility's. I've had mine lifted, dropped, stretched, and now sits at a bit shy of 16" axle to axle.
If you'd take my opinion. To produce a scaler. Out of what you have to work with. Remove the King axles and drive shafts first. Then get a RC4WD Trail Finder or similar chassis. New Transmission that fit the chassis (Wheely King trannys are not generally loved upon, and would probably need clocking anyway). Scale shocks or leaf springs (both?) . New scale tires and maybe wheels (2.2's, 1.9's can sometimes look a little goofy on these HPI axles if not done right). Last a sweet Tamiya body to round it off (with the light kit ). You can probably reuse your servos, esc, radio, motor and battery. Might also reuse the links? Looking into lipo would be a nice upgrade path.
Here's food for thought. Buy a star on RCC. Sell the machine you have there. Take the proceeds and purchase a scaler base. Build it up. You'd have a complete custom. Without the tear down work involved here. You might get a better price whole. Then just parting this animal out. Whatever you decide to do. I think you'll have fun :) .

I am still partial to some of these sweet scaler builds though. I do like all the options and help I am getting though! Keep the suggestions coming!
