I recently picked up 2wd slash it has the velineon brushless system. I'm wanting to run my MMP on the velineon motor and run it on 3S. I'm wondering if I need to know anything before switch over this ESC. Which gearing should I choose? What problems may lay ahead?

This is my first brushless system, I'd hate to screw it up right out the gate.

Why are you swapping out the ESC's, just out of curiousity?

Otherwise, the pair should be fine once you get the connectors to match, as the Velineon uses 3.5mm bullets while Castle's 1/10 systems use 4mm. Only thing I can think of that might be an issue is keeping it pointed in a straight line and ground bound while running on 3s!

The guy I got it from told me there's something wrong with the factory esc. it will go into thermal shut down. I have a MMP on the shelf at home. That's why I want to toss it in there. Connectors are no problem I have a bag of them, and a soldering iron.

Thanks for the info.

One other question here. What gearing would be safe to run?

Should be ok with what ever stock for that truck is, although I tend to gear my Pede for torque as 40mph doesn't do me any good in the back yard.

Speaking of gearing, take a look at what the truck is geared like right now. I've seen people over gear something for all out speed on pavement in a vehicle that's got too tall a tire and/or is too heavy for that ratio, then run it in grass and at bare minimum thermal their ESC, if not flat out smoke it.........

I've had several VXL Systems, nothing really wrong with the ESC's they just can't run 3s longer than 10 min without going into thermal shut down, even with a fan. A 2-WD Slash would be plenty quick on 2s, with 3s it will be a handful and just keep your eyes on the motor temps, even though they are "rated" for 3s they heat up quickly.

A side note FYI, the ESC is sensored. I ran sensored 13.5, 17.5 and 5.5 SC motors with that ESC all on 2s and it worked great. Just food for thought if you wanted to use it elsewhere or somebody local was looking for an inexpensive sensored ESC. "thumbsup"

OK, well it turns out a 2s is plenty for me in this thing right now. I haven't driven a truck like this in a long time, i'm quite rusty on the controls. Lol

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I run a vxl system on 3s 5000 packs in my sand rail all the time with no problems with heat. It was a 2wd slash at one time. Now its 3 times heavier then stock with a solid rod chassis and bigger rear tires.
