So I just bought my first rifle about a month ago, a mosin nagant and I have been dying to take a day and go out to the only range in my city that will allow such a high caliber rifle. Anyways I had planned this out on Friday. I called a few friends an made plans to meet them out there. I had $35 to pay for ammo and admission fees. Ok so my day had already started off bad when I tried to call my friend who was supposed to meet me up there and he didn't answer. I still haven't heard from him and we planned to go around 12:30. So after waiting for about 2 hours to hear from him I finally said screw it and left to go by myself. I had called the range to make sure they were open since its labor day and to see if they were charging extra due to the holiday. It is $14 on the weekdays and $20 on weekends. So the guy on the phone tells me yes they are open and that it is still only $14. So now I'm getting all my stuff together and loaded into the car. I go ahead an drive out there but I had to stop by the sporting goods store to pick up some ammo and targets, no big deal. I finally get to the range which is about 20-30 miles from my house. I sit through the 20 minute safety video and take there stupid little test. So I get done with the video and go into the office to pay for the day. The man behind the register asks me if I needed any hearing or eye protection I told him no I already have my own. So he rings everything up and tells me the total is $21!!! Inside my mind I mentally exploded. I was ready to jump over the counter and strangle this guy. Here I am covering all my bases and calling ahead to make sure the price didn't go up because of the holiday and when I get there they tell me it's extra because of the holiday. What the hell. I explained to the man I only had $15 on me. Enough to cover what would have been the admission fee. I explain that I had called ahead and that I was told it was only the normal weekday fee of $14 and he told me there was nothing he could do and that I would just have to come back another time. So here I am 30 miles from home, ready to shoot and worth everything I needed. And now I can't shoot because they gave me wrong information. Needless to say I left pissed the hell off. If it was not the only place in my city to shoot my rifle I would never go back. On top of all this the man behind the counter started laughing when I told him the situation. This place has the worst customer service I've ever experienced and on top of all that I had to sit through a 20 minute safety video with a bunch of 80 year old guys telling me not to walk Downrange while the line is hot. Common line I really need to be told that. Well now I have to wait until Friday before I can go back and try to finally shoot some rounds through my rifle. Well. Rant over. Let the flaming begin.

first question? 35$? that does not seem much to budget yourself for a day at the range... if you are getting into the hobby of shooting firearms might want to budget a bit more than that or find a hobby that is slightly less expensive. and for 21$ for use of a range seems pretty fair. the local indoor here is about 50$ but you must have a group of 2 or more at 50$ per person. did you not have some change in your car? or an extra 5$ in your pocket? Im no millionaire but I cant remember the last time I had my "last 40$" in my pocket. Id say just keep level headed, sure you got lied to by the dude on the phone but you never know the situation. maybe the guy on the phone was new, didnt know policy, or maybe he was just being an ass. o, just found out today a mosin here in Canada is a Prohib... not sure as to why but it is. didnt know there was mosin pistols either. hmmmm, might get one for shiggles.

Seems like the potential customers at a shooting range would be the last people on earth they'd want to piss off, for some reason they're always armed.

#1 is spelling and punctuation. #2 is,if you can't afford the range fees, maybe you shouldn't be shooting.
I'm sure that if you talk as well as you type, that explains their customer service towards you.:flipoff::roll:

My last check was about $140 and I had to give my dad $90. That left me with $35 give or take. Normally I do have a little extra cash just not this week. It is an expensive hobby. But then what isn't. Even my normal hobby to go fishing every weekend cost me around $25-30 a day between gas and bait. I don't really plan to go shooting that often but when I do I'd like to be able to go to the range and not have to come
Straight home.

Yea sorry about spelling and punctuation. I've never really been to good at either. It not that I can't afford it. I just only brought enough cash for what I thought I would need. I had enough if the price would have been what I was told over the phone

I would have been pissed about the price too..... You were told by their employee and should honor what they say. Anyways, as far as the shooting hobby let any hobby in fact if that is what you are planning for the day. I always plan for worse case scenario . I would have brought just a little money extra in case. Just like when I go comp my rigs I bring extra parts and a little extra cash.....just in case.

dude, Im sorry. I never new shit was that rough down in the States.... I truly hope that is a typo and is meant to say 1400$. if not, its time to move to where the work is and shooting should be the least of your worries.

No it's not a typo but that was only for two days work. It's not that bad down here. I work through a temp agency and I can I only work when they call me. So I might work 2 days a week. Or I might work a full week. I make about $8-10 an hour. It's not so much that the pay here in the states is bad it's just that if you are looking for a new job it's really hard to find one. At least in Florida

Sounds like poor planning on your part. If you can afford to drive 60 miles round trip to shoot, maybe you should carry a spare $20 in your wallet.
Well like I said. Normally I have a little more cash. It would have not been a problem if they would have have me proper information.

And I usually do carry some extra cash just In case. Just not this week

I'm kinda surprised at the cost being in FL. $15 bucks a day is a rip off. We pay $100 a year for unlimited use of all the ranges. Anyway it's not a cheap hobby my wife was happy when I started crawling and stopped buying guns and ammo all the time. Just bring plenty of cash friday and don't worry about that jackass at the counter.

I could pay the $100 for a membership an go whenever I want. I'll probly only go 4 or 5 times a year though so its really not worth it.

When I go to the range I spend at least $100 on ammo alone let alone range fees and all that stuff...Wouldnt be worth the drive to shoot less than 50 rounds anyways.

Same here. Hell, I can blast away here at the house if I wanted to but I have a nice clay pit about a 1/4 mile away that is perfect. "thumbsup"

What I meant to say was that I used to be able to go shooting here local but have since lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident. ;-)
