Anyone own or have experience with Mini Cat Racing boats?

I stumbled across their site yesterday and now I have an unrelenting urge to buy one...they're ridiculous.

I dabbled in R/C boats for a few months. Probably in the wrong months. Everytime I flipped the boat, I would have to swim for it in the cold a$$ lake water. So I couldn't really drive the piss out of it. They say never to swim for one but I wasn't going to buy a raft just to retrieve an R/C boat. So I sold it. Tons of fun though. Insane speeds. I looked at those boats before I decided to buy an R/C Boat.

I had a thread in the non-crawler section, search "pickle".

Their reviews on offshoreelectrics have been very good. I got out of electric boats because of the high cost of batteries (which is coming down very quickly)

If I were to get an electric today it would be the mini hydro or the ECO.

Why is that?

I guess cause boat guys are usually an older crowd and can't swim good?

I dunno, I was over on offshoreelectrics talking about swimming for my boat one time and like 5 dudes got all worked up about it. Well, not really worked up but mentioned not to do that again.

I guess it's just a safety thing.

Once a year or so, somebody will die swimming for a boat. When you get out in the water swimming for it, you aren't thinking about fatigue or how far it is back to the bank.
Once people get to their boat, they turn around and realize they don't have enough energy to get back.

The best way to get a dead boat is a retrieve boat (small cheap electric hooked to a fishing pole). Second best is a tennis ball on the end of a fishing pole. I have personally hooked my boat with a tennis ball from about 150 ft.

I swam for a boat once and without a life jacket i wouldn't have made it back. I'll never swim for one again.

That velocity cat looks pretty cool! Not a bad price either....

Yeah Jeremy, the price structure isn't bad given the components and the apparent quality of the hulls...plus they run on little 1300 Lipo packs which I have plenty of for my crawlers. I'm quite fond of the Hydro myself but the Outrigger is bad ass

checkout the eco boat!
thats a tight turn!!

The Eco is cool and it's self righting, but I'm not a fan of the design. The wife and I have been talking about Kayaks for a while so it makes these little buggers all the more tempting because I'll have a retrieval method.

Only drag here is that my DX3R doesn't have the Marine protocol. I put an e-mail into Horizon to see if it can be upgraded like th older 3S systems. I've heard from boat guys at our LHS that the pre-Marine protocol Spektrum's don't function well in boats...they all swear by Futaba for this application.

Looks like an additional Tx if I drop the hammer on one of these.

Thank you for contacting Horizon Hobby Product Support. The DX3R cannot
be updated to sue the MR3000 marine receiver. Additionally we do not
recommend the use of any 'SR' series surface receivers in marine
applications. If you should need further assistance regarding this
issue please reply to this e-mail for additional support.
