RC Crawler Center Differential?

Hey yall. Anyone seen a center diff. set up for a crawler?

I have an SCX10 that of course has a locked center diff - I'm talking driveline/transmission output. Wondering if anyone has installed a diff in the middle that distributes power to the front and/or rear of the car as well. Not talking about the ones in the axles.

I know most 1:1 cars have this, but I have only seen dig systems for the SCX10 tranny. Nothing like an open center diff.

Thanks for any info you have!

As soon as you start to climb something and the front end climbs up transferring the weight to the rear axle the rear tires stop spinning while the front spins.

I figure it could be kind of interesting for a basher rig too. See what it does at some decent speeds with different oil weights in there.... curious, man!

For a basher a center diff is fine. I know a guy that put paddles on the back of his exo and smooth razor backs on the front. Dropped it in the sand and it just spun the front tires going nowhere. :lmao:

I ran paddles front and back with a locked center diff and it would pull wheelies at will.

The Arrma Nero has a lockable center diff in addition to lockable front and rear diffs. As White-Trash noted, it would add complexity without benefit to a crawler. But in a bash rig like the Nero it could be fun.

Yeah for sure, could be fun. I don't really think it's a benefit for a crawler - but it does add some scale if you wanted to go full on. I drive a Subaru and it has a viscous center diff that transfers power from front to rear - I was looking for the RC equivalent, or someone who hacked a diff from an axle into their driveline!

Curiousity man... that's what I love about this hobby.

An exo diff wouldn't be hard to use. You'd need an auxiliary gear reduction unit like HPI used to use for the wheelie king but it'd work.

I have a 2WD ECX Torment that has a transmission with a diff output directly attached to it - since the whole thing sits on the rear end. I guess I could just drop that trans into the SCX10 and see if I could attach the front and rear driveshafts. The possibilities!

Use a stampede tranny, or the newer proline style
