Rc4wd 2.2 Guantlet Scale Tires in X3 sticky compound.

Im going to tell a story about them"thumbsup"...

(( mind you, this is MY PERSONAL experience and opinion. I have been in this awhile and run every tire out there. ))

opposition wecome!!!!!

I have been wondering about the rc4wd Guantlet tires for some time (years) and finally ended up with a set in a Lot of crap i bought here.
honestly never much liked the way they looked to begin with.

once mounted that started to change:mrgreen:.....

trucks basic specs....

87-21 geard
OD/UD
XR mod and 10mm wide hex's
tire mounted on Mayhem 2.2 Slammerz with TR rings.
3s 10t puller powered. plenty of wheel speed.
Ci custom closed cell inners and Med outters. tires vented.
tires are very lightly sipped. NOT CUT.
scx based full bodied YJ
12.5 wheelbase
9.5 pounds RTR.
fronts weighted 3oz ea wheel. (very little)

first off, Ive always run 4.75 size 1.9's on my YJ from day one, its stretched out to 12.5 inch WB and has the XR mod with wide hex's, so it looks pretty wide stance-wise.
point being, I always wanted a tad taller tire.
Well, thats where the Guantlet came in. at just a hair taller thaN my 1.9 Boggers they fit perfect. but enough about my biz. I want to tell everyone how well they work!!

these tires are crazy. not exactly sure yet what they are modeled after scale-wise, (maybe MT's)?? but with the shaved sidewall "look", skinny profile and tall dims they are a great tire. they dont bind up in cracks and when they do you are able to wiggle it out with some throttle work due to the smooth sidewalls."thumbsup". they also sidehill very well (with the rite foams).

for comparison........

I built my Father an XJ for FDay and its VERY built mind you, its running the 1.9 pits and claws (claws YUK) but we all know what pits can do. has OD, CVD's, hi-steer, 35t handwound, 3s all that good stuff. both our rigs weight about the same now, also have the same wheel speed, we also both run Ci closed cell DD foams in ALL our tires now...
that being said, when we go runnin, any climb we come across Ill always peel right up it weather its loose, sandy, wet, dirt, gravel or just plain ol rock or sand stone. they just go everywhere EASY.
the hard lines I pick, the pits most time have alot of trouble going. surprised the hell outta me.. they flat, out-dooo my boggers and claws, and outperform pits in every aspect. sidehills, downhill off camber turns, ledges, climbs, cracks, binds.... everywhere in all terrain.
I also notice they are very scale in the "Warm your line" area!!! if I hit something thats just on the verge of *too much* for anything to go up, I can sit and spin:shock: the tires for awhile, barely keeping the front on the surface, and eventually they do find that traction you never thought was there. ALWAYS surprising the chit out of me!!

(not dis-claiming the pits they rock we all know that!!)

these comparisons are in situations where height is not the key factor, but forward traction is tested...

all in all, not sure what the hell makes these things work so good but THEY DO VERY WELL!! gotta say best tire I have ever run so far and Im not a newb.
Ive run these against other 2.2 and 1.9's also, pits being the best competitor by far. But TSL sx, x2 boggers, Iroks, saws, Challengers, Claws, Treps......on and on and they are better everywhere.

as far as stability, and capability these tires have what it takes. not sure where they fit in for any comp stuff but for a trail rig they rock!!!

they also wear VERY well, Ill shoot some shots of mine and update this thread, just wanted to let people in on a secret about an ugly duckling:ror:..

thanks for reading and PLEASE POST YOUR EXPERIENCE with these tires. pics are good too! mods done, wear, vids...... I know not may have used these and they arent a popular tire and this should change.

please post up!! thanks

Nice write-up A.J., I've looked at these tires but figured they wouldn't do much in the loose stuff. But hey,the Two-face's look like parapalegic chimps but my buddy Dirty kicks a$$ on them in C2. Thanks for the info.

the hollow lugs are very similiar to comp tires of years past. this is what helps them climb so well. of course the lateral lugs help forward traction a ton.
i know what tires there modeled after but cant think of the name. im sure someone will chime in.
great write up!

thanks Maxwedge!! like I said, i didnt think they would climb loose stuff either but after peeling up a loose rock/fine dirt and sand mixed hill no prob then watching the pits NOT make it made me scratch my head:mrgreen:

thanks Stang Killa for the comment!! and chime in they did indeed! those are nice looking 1:1 tires.

as for forward bite these tires have it better than any I have run, and thats no joke. I like to think I can drive pretty well too so i know whats good and whats not. they also sidehill wonderfully with the right foams as stated"thumbsup"

mine are lightly sipped too.

JUST WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW thanks so much!!

if anyone wants them you should get them quick because they're discontinued and on sale.

he is very right! I also wonder about the " Rock and Die " scale 2.2 tires, i bet they work OK... but these tires people...... GET SOME. so much fun on a trail rig!!

I don't want to "hi-jack" the thread, but since w e're patting RC4WD on the back here.... My favorite 2.2 scale tire for the last couple years is the Outcropper. Works well everywhere, better than my TSL's with same weight/rig. They are the Nitto Mud Grappler, only larger (Nitto only makes up to a 38" I believe). Anyway, I don't like the looks of the Gauntlet, or the two face, or the rock-n-die, but they Just Work. Buy what looks cool to you. It's your toy truck.

i used a set of the rock and die tires and didnt like them enough to keep them. they did fine on loose dirt and rocks but they lacked the side to side traction thats is needed. if you can find them, they're an okay tires for just bashing around, but not the best.
