So I wanted to start a thread about the Replay XD 1080 since I did not found one exclusively about the camera and there is quite a handful to say about it. Also, is in my hopes that other follow the example and write about their experience with their cameras.

First, this is the only "sport" camera I own, so is the only one I can talk about. Maybe someone with one of the other brand (GoPro, Contour, etc) could start a thread about it!
Second, I may mention something about the camera that might not be 100% accurate because is based in my own experience.
Third, this is not a walkthrough. I'm doing this in order to give you people information about the device so you can do a better judgement on if this camera is the right one for you.

Now, lets get over the basics about the Replay XD 1080, simply watch this videos (they go over the basics):

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6ulPutyalEI?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Now that you took some time to watch the videos, let me talk a little about it the camera, my opinion and what I have found ;-)

I choose the XD because its size and cylindrical shape, being that shape gave me better grip over it when wrapping it with Velcro against other objects and being a small size it fitted perfectly on top of the body posts of my crawler.

It also can be mounted in a tripod that comes with a removable base!

I think the Replay XD 1080 is a great camera, it have great customization and is quite sturdy. Lets get into the customization part. I don't know about the competition (I don't own other), but I found that the Replay XD 1080 have a file named XD1080.txt located inside the micro sd card that contains various parameter that can be adjusted by the user giving him/her more control over the device, such file is auto generated by the camera when an empty micro sd card is inserted. Somehow on every video and review I saw they miss to mention the existence of such capability.
Here is an example of the content:

Now, I'm not going into every option available and I can't say I have played with each one of them, but I'm happy they are there if I need them. :) I did increased the microphone gain and set the bit-rate to high. Here is the raw information of a video from the camera with the XD1080.txt setting above mentioned:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 59.94fps 14357kbps [Video]
Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 127kbps [Audio]

About the sturdiness, I can say is quite sturdy (still, a matter of luck). It have survived some falls and rollovers and also my 4 years old daughter. :lmao: Now I haven't expose it to watery/muddy environment yet.

About the miscor sd card that came (at least) with the replay XD 1080 I bought. The micros sd card was a 4GB CLASS 10 card, this is important as I found that if you put a card that is below CLASS 6, the camera will have problems recording the videos (I believe is a matter of buffering). Currently (at the creation of this thread) I have a 16GB CLASS 6 card on my camera and what happens is that while the camera is recording the blue led start to flash (this is because I have the bitrate on the HIGH setting), but the camera still records the video fine! The flashing disappears when I insert the CLASS 10 miscro sd card that came with the camera. Also, when the battery is low the blue led flashes.

Here are some video I did using the camera (be warned, you may become dizzy) I recommend viewing them @720:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_D9t0V5RxC0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yH_EYyLnYn4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

FPV scenes were recorded at 720 60fps.

Other stuff:
1)You can connect the camera to your car lighter receptacle using the provided lighter plug charger and usb cable and literally record until the sd card gets full. Be warned that the camera will consume its own battery and will be living from the power provider by your car and once you unplug it, it will turn off instantly.
2)The camera gets hot, it won't melt cheese but it may become uncomfortable if being hold in the hands.
3)When removing any of both caps (the one that protects the lens and the one for accessing the controls) be wary that the rubber rims(that do the sealing) may come out and fall!

Tips and Things I did with the camera, that you could do (at your own risk). "thumbsup"
1)I wrapped the camera with velcro to a monopode that have a movable head base and used it to take aerial video shots (during an expedition I went).
2)This one was risky; I connected the car charger to a 12V 7AMPS battery cell (those used in PC battery backups) using an adapter and then connected the camera directly to it and I got tire of recording (and carrying the battery in my backpack).;-)
3)Something I found. If you buy the camera, when you remove it from the cardboard box, you get a base with some stickiness left on it. Now the thing is that you can wash it and it will keep some of its stickiness and can be reused with the help of some velcro (velcro will tight it while washed base will hold it on place) "thumbsup"

Hope you enjoyed it and found it useful, just wanted to share some info about the camera (though, I might have overdid it).

Here is a video I made on how to connect the XD 1080 to a 12 volt sealed battery.

This one is using a small battery pack.
