Retierment sucks

I hate to sound like a complainer, but I'm going to anyway.
I love this truck. For the most part it is of the highest quality I have seen . I once owned a first gen Bruiser and find the TF2 light years ahead.
Having sed that I also find RC4wd to be the most expensive hobby supplier I have ever ran across. It's like they give you the dog at a reasonable price but look out , guess where you have to buy the food...........
They actually want $20 for the RC4wd printed catalog . Granted , not something that we all need in todays society but great to carry in your range box. Tower will still get you a catalog for $3 then refund that same $3 on your first order. Good business in MHO.
Just my rant for the day.
Mean while I am in a "circle the air port" mode while awaiting the delivery of my ESC. The last part I need before testing.
I will be running s3 x 3000mhz packs through a 35 turn mood mtr. This will be a learning experience for me as Lipo's weren't available the last time I participated in this hobby.
Well that's enough non information for today. Hope my part's show up soon so I will have something to wright about.........

welcome and yeah its a long ways from how i grew up... while i agree it seems some vendors are expensive... some of their stuff is top notch... while some you pay for name.

Just dumped another $100 today.
This is as bad as a gimbaling addiction.... Just kidding...
Lighting kit / long shock towers / 100mm shocks / steel driveshaft's / a driver / extra Deans for the range box / shackle reverse hardware etc. Thank the lord for Amazon........

^^ which driver?
i ordered a punisher but really want to look for normal people... i also got a 6" but that would be a 5' guy..

That just crazy 20 bucks for a catalog.... if you want cheap parts buy Chinese there all kinds of after market parts same as RC4WD but under a different name and are half the price because RC4WD is Chinese..if you look at the tags in the back they all say Made in China.

Driver will be a "Breyer Austin Cowboy 8" Figure.
Pretty normal looking guy. Once you strip off the chaps, he's got blue jeans and a button down shirt. Oh and the bonus cowboy hat. I'll hang that in the rear window.

Not really looking to go cheap but seems like there is a 30 - 50% jump on everything they sell????? And yes the catalog thing just sits wrong with me. I've dumped nearly $1000
on RC4wd product so far, you'd think a comp'd catalog wouldn't be out of line.......

Well driver Dan showed up in the mail today. I'm still waiting for all of the important stuff.
Any way , thought I'd shoot some pics for ya.

After removing his chaps he had a clean pair of jeans underneath.

Size looks good.....

Until I stuffed his little but in the seat. !/4" to tall.......!!!!!!! Crap!

So - - - - - After his major back surgery ( he will heal quick ) he should fit fine.

I think I may age him a tad. He is kind of a young looking guy. Maybe a beard and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth is in order?

Driver Dan is healed!
He just fit's now. I'll have to hang his hat in the rear window though.

Opted for a cigar rather than the cigarette and yes he grew a beard.

This weekend was a heavy snow event here on the northern Oregon coast.
So house bound with nothing to do I decided to try my hand at a scale camper for the TF2.
Built from art board ( foam board ) . Fun project.
Not quite ready for prime time yet . But you get the idea.
It will be skinned ( externally ) with heavy weight aluminum foil .
I want it to match my 1 - 1 camper.

Wish I could find an 85 Nissan body . I'd have twins when done.

Wow , My esc finally shower up Monday. I wired her up for a test run.
35 turn / 3s lipo / skyfly gt3B etc. What a great rig. Right up until the front drive line took a dump.

Thankfully after reading all of the input from you guys about the lack of strength in the stock drive lines provided with the TF2 , I have already ordered a set of upgraded ( King ) replacements.
I just thought the stockies would last more than 1 run.
So for now I have a 2wd truck. Once it stops raining buckets I'll post some pics of the truck on the rock pile........

I had some time today and even though I have ordered the bruiser spring mounts and shackles to assemble a shackle reverse as most have done I just couldn't get past the idea that I could do the same thing with stock parts.
That's exactly what I have done.
I started by countersinking the bolt holes for the steering cross member. This is not really necessary but it cleans things up a bit.

I then broke out the Dremel , a small straight burr and my round file. The slots that need to be cut into the spring hangers are nearly 3/8" long so be patient .

I then just bolted them up using small through bolts in the rear and the stock bumper mount bolts in the front.

The shackles lined up nicely with the front mounting hole of the original spring mount. I attached it using a standard non shouldered bolt and nylock. Wasn't sure if this was going to work so I chose not to drill the frame . I may later.

I then moved the shock tower to the rear 1 hole and relocated the stock shock to the rear of the axle.

I have a set of Galend ( hope I spelled that right ) shock towers coming and a pair of 100mm shocks. Once they arrive I will be able to finish this conversion.
So far it seems that I wont be needing the Bruiser parts as the tire centered right up where it should.

Nothing wrong with spare parts though. I'll save them for a scratch build that I am planning.

Yes it did. I will say that until I did the shackle reverse I had no steering angle interference from the shocks . Afterwards things had moved just enough to have contact.

Finallllllly. The new shafts arrived today. Got the truck together and decided : time for a test shoot.
I am not fortunate enough to have a rock crawling pit in my yard . More like a couple of rocks in 1 of the flower beds. Crawling was limited at best.
I did have enough room to get the truck dialed in ( between rain squalls ) pretty well. She shifts well and is surprisingly fast in second gear. Compared to my old Bruiser , that is.
Steering is limited but not to bad. All in all it drives like a scale Toyota....

Articulation is pretty good.

A bit of sun.

A bit of an update: The rest of my parts finally showed up the other day.
The truck is now sitting on Gelande front hoops with 90mm shocks. 100mm rears .
I haven't modified the spring stack yet but I am sure I will once the rig can be run enough to determine what is needed.
The Onkuey lighting kit also showed up. Interesting gadget. I noticed right away that the leads will be to short for this truck ( as I built it ).
Due to the full interior and the fact that I mounted the interior tub to the chassis rather than the body , removing the body to service the battery was going to be a pain.
Add all of the lighting harness to the mix and it would have been a nightmare.
after a few days mulling this over I came up with a solution that works for me.
A tilt bed.
I won't be needing to remove the cab ( other than to service the engine bay ) which makes running the lighting harness for the cab much easier.
This also makes battery swaps a breeze.

The hinge is a built up affair from a standard 2" hinge found at Home Despot and some 3/4" x 20ga Angle iron. I added th stand off ( angle iron ) so that it could be mounted through the bed floor with countersunk screws.

Alignment was fun . Took several attempts to get it just right.

Now I can clean up all of my wiring and possibly start enjoying driving and fine tuning.
Valuable lesson learned : Never paint the body until your happy with the chassis , suspension and wiring.
This body will probably end up a basher. I will probably have to buy a new body kit for true scale fit and finish. Live and learn .
