Steve Ditko was largely responsible for spidey's classic red and blue costume, along with fellow creator Stan Lee.
He passed at the age of 90.

For me, his first appearance version of spidey is one of my favorites. I even mentioned in my figure review vid the eyes remind me of Ditko. Just iconic. He will be missed but will live forever as his legacy of Spider-Man is certainly here to stay.

Rest in Peace Steve Ditko .

Oof...that Twitter comment saying he’s the first Spider-Man illustrator is just...wrong.

It was definitely sad news...he created so many characters...more than even I knew. A dream of mine is to see Amazing Fantasy 15 in the flesh. That would be...amazing.

if he wasn't the illustrator... who was?
i saw something about he just did the color? and it was drawn by.. Jack Kirby? both are awesome and Kirby's influence was heavily used in Thor Ragnarok.

oh, okay this gets into some of the debate:
The Never-Ending “Who Created Spider-man” Debate | Kirby Dynamics

so kinda both of them.
now i really want to chase down a "first appearance" spidey marvel legends figure. only $20 on the bay but that might be going up now.

Couple more years and they will be able to shoot the (Spiderman) scenes in one take.
With lifelike movement and no CGI. 8)

Just calling him an illustrator seems like a downgrade. I mean, I’m not miffed by it, you’re just sorta downplays his role.

That is a very interesting read...I’ll have to dig deeper.

oh no i wasn't downplaying at ALL. just seems that's what most people are saying is it was mostly Kirby, and that blows my mind so i found that link to educate myself.
*i see what you mean now it was twitter comment you refrerenced saying he was just "an" illustrator like one of the artists over the years who have drawn him. yeah that's a serious downgrade and i know full and well he had WAY more involvement than that!

anyway yes that link is a very interesting, albeit complicated, explanation.
