RJ's Leafed Ascender

My first real build thread. I usually don't have the patience for this but since this is my second Ascender I’m not so quick to build and crawl. I initially bought my first Ascender as an RTR. Had it for a while now and absolutely love it. It's been a great rig right out of the box. I had the same problems as most with the non HD gears. After I upgraded I have had zero issues. With that being said…on to the new. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I got the kit version for this build. My kit had the new HD gears and HD drive shafts. The only issue with the kit was it came with 2 rear link trusses and no front. I emailed Horizon support and a day later they had the part in the mail. I appreciate all the previous build threads. I've learned a ton by reading through them.

Wow very nice, well documented too. GCM leaf kit looks great looking forward to seeing it all on the trail! Narrowed VooDoos look very scale and kinda like MTZs...I like it. :). Keep it coming. Nice job on your bent links too!

Looking good man. Great start.

Thanks man...body work and cleaning up the wire mess is next.

Thanks Nate, your thread was one that served as a great resource. I got it running inside the house for a little test, so far so good. Let me know if you see something built wrong, lol. Took me about 10 minutes to rebuild the axle correctly. I have to tear down the transmission, something doesn't seem right. Seems like a lot of resistance compared to my RTR version.

Thanks, glad to help. I like the color and look of your home made brake line links. Less spacers between leaves and axles should work better. I wouldn't do more than 3 or 4 millimetres if that.

Thanks...I like how the links kind of blend well with the rest of the rig. I ordered some RC4WD leaf spring spacers to experiment with.

How much suspension travel do you give up by going to the leafs as opposed to the RTR rear end? Any advantages with the leafs?

Not an overall advantage in performance but a more true to scale look. You must choose your line carefully. Different style of driving. It's more of a challenge. Side hill advantage and zero torque twist.

Should be enough travel, more scale, better sidehilling, no torque twist...everything that Rc2000 said. "thumbsup"

Thanks for the responses! Ice only been in the hobby for about 10 months so my experience is limited to RTRs with minor upgrades haha.

If you have any questions and you don't want to post them up just send me a PM. I would be more than happy to share any knowledge I may have. I stress the words may have, lol.

I have not looked at this thoroughly yet, but is there any way you can adapt the rear kit to the front of the ascender?

Great build so far.

If there is a will there is a way. I haven't really looked at it but you would limit your steering angle. To me it's more scale with the leafs riding in the back only.

Great build, the GCM leaf kit is pretty sweet, looking forward to more updates. :)

Thanks Nate...If I could just concentrate on one thing at a time I could finish this thing up. I'm always slow when it comes to the body.

Digging this thread...

Thanks...

nice rig. i love mine.. like the look of the wheels. tss converters?? converts what?

The converters allow you to run any proper length 5mm drive shafts.
