Rock Claws reduced to 1.9!

I found this thread trying to search for an answer that is turning out to be a little elusive - What are you tire narrowing pro's using to actually do the cutting??

I just narrowed a set of M2K's this morning (I know what you guys mean about "having the balls" as I sat there with a barely used M2K in my hands) and knowing that even a razor sharp blade would not give me a straight cut, I chose a pair of heavy scissors.

My results were pretty acceptable (to me anyway) but I'm thinking that if the cut could be dead straight it would go back together with no gaps to have to spend extra time shutting. The scissors I used left a small "hump" every time I moved them to make a new cut, and this made it a little harder IMO to accurately glue back together.

At least now they don't look like monster truck tires, I'm hoping the narrower profile will not get hung up on/under stuff as bad as the stock width does:

They look way more "scale" like this as well. I just need to get the glue joints dirty, I hope they won't show as bad.

Do you guys do anything more than run a bead of CA around the inside of the joint? That's all I did, they seem like they will not come back apart. I tried pretty hard to pull one back apart and it seemed strong enough to do the job...

those look real good to me, mike!

Thanks Greg - these were easy, they have a built-in "guideline" to cut with. I just need to find a better pair of scissors I guess. Or some small sheet-metal shears or something.

No intimidation next time, now that I've tried it.

These tires work good, they're just too wide IMO. This is a huge improvement on just looks alone, if they also perform better I'll be stoked...

Those wheels are mmade to work with HPI's "Vintage" tires. They have a normal bead but part of the sidewall covers a portion of the wheel to give the appearance of a smaller wheel diameter.

Thats what i've been trying to figure out, if the beads were normal. So you reckon they will work/look ok on the new RC4WD 1.9 stompers?
