RR10 Throttle/Steering Issue

My RR10 bomber will lose throttle response when I turn the wheels all the way left or right. The truck will come to an immediate halt when the steering wheel is all the way turned. I have installed an aluminum link kit on the truck front and rear. Also, I have replaced the ESC and motor from stock to a trail master 540.

It is hard to tell if the dog bones are getting caught or if the tires/wheels are hitting the link kit. I think it has to do with the drive shaft/dog bones.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it a mechanical stop or is the ESC shutting down.

Whats the ESC and the steering Servo?

If its the electronics shutting down your steering servo may be drawing more amps than you ESC can provide (this is a brown out). You may want a external BEC if this is the case, Knowing what ESC and servo you have will help us figure out what you might need.

If its a mechanical issue and you still have dogbones I'd recommend upgrading to universal shafts https://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/ax30780.htm
These are more durable, allow for more steering angle and will never pop out like dogbones.
Typically you have to limit how far you steer with dogbone axles and when you have too much travel/steering they will usually pop out instead of jamming up.

Sounds like the steering servo is causing brown-out, i.e. pulling too much amperage.

My first though is that if it is happening when the steering is at full-throw, you may not have your end points set properly, causing the servo to draw too much amperage. If the end points are set properly, then I would check for binding in the steering.

I have the Hobbywing Quicrun ESC and I swapped the motor out to the Trailmaster 540. I have not touched the steering end points other than the trim adjustment on the controler. It doesn't seem to be a mechanical bind up although the tires/wheels do get very close to the linkage. The truck will stop when steering is at full throw and then if i bump the throttle it will act like it wants to move forward but will not move forward.

That sounds like a brown out.

Is that the HW 1060? if so that has a wimpy 2 Amp internal BEC and you likely do need an external BEC though it is possibly your servo could be at fault. I use Castle external BECs most of the time, a 10 amp should be enough for whatever servo you throw at it in the future. https://www.rpphobby.com/category_s/681.htm

Are you still running the stock servo? they dont typically last too long since the big 2.2" tires can really beat these up.

Thanks for the info. I think I will buy that 10 amp BEC and put it on and see what it does. The stock servo has actually been working fine. (knock on wood) lol. I'll check back when I get the BEC installed.
