Im I ok to run the Robinson Racing Pinion Gear Xtra Hard 5mm .8 Mod 32P with my 32P Steel Hot Racing Spur? Or do I have to use Robinson Racing gen3 Spur.
Thanks
Like Steve said, as long as the pitch is the same. I'm also using RR pinion with the stock axial spur. I like running a plastic spur. It is an easy to replace failure point in my otherwise bulletproofed drivetrain.
As DickyT and Steve have stated, you DO NOT have to run Steel with steel, or brand A with brand A. But the most important part of this whole debate, IMHO is the gear mesh. If the gear mesh is correct, you can get away with many combinations. I personally love the steel on steel gear drive sound I get from running an all steel gear train.
That said, an extra hard pinion will eat that spur gear like a lunchable if the mesh isn't right!
