I call this one Chazwinski named after the Marlin crawler dual transfer case setup by Marlin Chazwinski made for Toyota 4x4's for the super low gearing. It is a model S10 kit, custom frame, stock Losi axles, stock Losi esc, but NOT a stock Losi trany and motor...it's from a Sumo crawler. I made it droop to hold the weight better.

The bed has been bobbed (shortened) 1" and the wheel wells opened up. It had the mirrors on it but the first trip out they went BY BY! The paint started out blue, hated it, primered over it and it all cracked up. Sanded it and painted it red...hated it. During the process of sanding for another color I liked how it looked with the "body shop" look so I left it. Now I am really happy because the body scratches look good instead of making me cry that I spent so much time on a good paint job.

I will post more soon including video of this STUPID slow crawler on the rocks. I honestly thought I would hate going this slow but I bet a large percentage of us that tried it would enjoy old school crawling over rock racing. It has ABSOLUTELY NO BUMP POWER! but the precise movements and control...not to mention the fact that the torque is so high that you can't hold a wheel without flipping the rig.

Anyway here are some quick pics. A video will come soon!

I even had the room to velcro in a badge winch. It is so much fun and it really works!

That turned out real nice. Perfect stance and great flex. Whoever says those tires scale out to 49s are huffing stuff, they look like 40s on a trail truck to me. I think you nailed it!

That "whoever" must be me, since I just said that in another thread a day or 2 ago, huh? :flipoff:

If that S10 was 1/25th scale, the TTC tires would scale out to 49". Its not "huffing stuff"- 1 millimeter equals 1 scale inch in 1/25 scale.

But the model body looks to be 1/20 scale- which is probably why they don't look like 49" tall tires.

Very nice looking build, man. Paint looks perfect for a trail beater.

Yup...it's 1/20. Either way they look cool. "thumbsup"
I think I need a little more weight in the tires to help traction. I am used to MICLAWS where traction is amazing. These work pretty good. I have a set of Boggers to install to see if they are better on this rig.

Re: S10 build...I'm in love!

And the tires are about 2" tall, which equals to 40" tall tires in 1/20th scale. That Midlife is an oracle, I tell you- an oracle! "thumbsup"

Have you tried BBs in the tires for more weight? I haven't, but I'm thinking I will on my truggy build.

Theres a bunch of BB's in each tire now. I have always liked BB's in the micro tires. They work really well in the QLO's.

I would really like to make a lead weight system that adds more weight around the center of the rim instead of sloshing around at the outside of a tire. I made a cast for mealting lead into (like a mold) to make wheel weights but it's not clean enough yet. I think I'll get there though.

I hope you two are just messing with eachother about the tire sizes

It's not that important... 44's, 49's, 54's...It's all good! Anyone ever do the math on the QLO tire size in scale? They gotta be like 66" tires

Re: S10 build...I'm in love!

DANALLY, Losi sells wheel weights for the Trail Trekker ... they are a brass weight in 2pcs per wheel that wraps around the centre of the wheel inside the tire. I have them on the front wheels of DevilFrog and plan to get some for BabyBooger as well, they work pretty good.

Is that a 1S or 2S battery in the back (or NiMh)? I'm thinking of trying a MQ MOA v1 motor in one of my micro's as it's a gear down motor like the Sumo uses the Qlo motor is the same size as the Losi one but with a metal gear drive on the end.
Old school slow is why I still use 1S in my McRC's ... but there are downsides to that.

The truck is looking really good, I'll have to try looking for the badge 'winch' one day, looks pretty slick.

The only reason a 66" tire ain't scale is becasue no one makes one yet ... years back a 44" tire was considered huge and was the largest available ... all just a matter of time as I see it.

It is a custom 400mah 7.4 lipo 2s. It was just 2 of the 3.7 packs from china i put together cause I didn't want the 1s anymore.

I have seen those wheel weights...any idea how heavy they are (pair)? I might try a set just to see.

Thanks!

Re: S10 build...I'm in love!

Hey man, don't sweat it- my tire comments to Midlife are typed in good natured ribbing. Certainly nothin' serious meant on my part.

I have solder hammered flat & stuck between my wheels & the home-made PVC beadlocks for weight in both my Micro's.

Re: S10 build...I'm in love!

I used to used fishing weight hammered flat ... 1/4" round and came in a long length coil (1lb per package). Worked pretty good and could be cut to shape once flattened. mainky used it for my 1/10 crawlers but then the McRC came around and I made it work.
Looked like a big ole silverish turd on my original Raptor build back when, 'til i hammered it flat (you can see the 'turd' on it in my first post of the TMC build I have going - there's an old pic of my Raptor chassis).
I don't know what the brass weights weigh honsetly ... about the same as three coils of 1/8" solder (that's what they replaced and it felt about the same).

nice thing about them is they act as the inner bead surface with your widener mod #1 wheels.

Re: S10 build...I'm in love!

Not a bad idea! I am still working on the mold...if it works out I want to make a few at different thicknesses. I'll post when done. I should have a video up this weekend on the s10.

You did a great job on that, its SUPER capable!

Thanks. I had NO idea it would be as capable as it is. I expected a top heavy bouncy rig. It is smooth as silk.

I found a new Sumo trany and motor for sale on Ebay. I picked it up right away so I can make another rig with one! I love the slow crawling. The power is unstoppable and the run times are SICK! I played for 30 minutes on a 400mah and it still wasn't dead.

The next rig will be a full Campbell buggy again but out of plastic this time. I want it to have a lower body line with extra ground glearance. I will also be using a 3 channel set-up to get an independant 4ws.

Nice work!!
Do you have some shots without the body?
So we can have a look at your custom frame ;)

When it comes in, can you put up a pic of the Sumo setup? I was thinking the Sumo tranny might be thinner and easier to install in a scaler, but I can't find any good pics of them online.

Holy smokes, you nailed it! Nice and slow.

You have no idea until you try it...I have never had this much fun with a micro. I was actually getting a little bored with these until I used the RCMC trany and motor with the Losi axles. I have now picked up 2 more RCMC trany's...one on ebay someone parted out and another off of Rob who needed a Losi one.

I am in the works of making "MY ULTIMATE CRAWLER" now that I really know what I want. It will be independent 4ws, Losi axles, RCMC trany and motor, and a tube chassis that has high clearance. I got one of those 20a hong kong micro speed controllers and a 3 channel radio system with a micro receiver. I am not going to do QLO's on it tho...just some boggers or Mickies. I like the smaller tires for the challenge.
