Scale rally racing...!

not sure to make this old road car ( cheapy ) a rally or crawler..
rally would be pretty easy and looks a heap of fun haha.

just its missing the chassis :/ and carnt find one.. so looks like gonna be a custom chassis. but yeah see what happens.. you guys all running brushless? in the vids they go pretty quick looks a heap of fun todo haha.

Also ...Just got a new 3000kv (13t) motor installed and am VERY satisfied!
I was worried it would be slower than I wanted, but even at normal timing it's got great acceleration and loads of torque.. and no drivetrain failures! I'm thinking this power package (3S lipo, 13t motor, Castle SCT ESC) is the rally combo I've been looking for...

Took me some time to get reciever figured out.. who knew they had a positive and negative terminals :lmao:

Took some inspiration and made some mud flaps for mine.

I used some large shrink wrap and super glued it too the body, the rear two ripped off after about twenty minutes of driving, but a got a couple photos of them.

Most likely getting a DF03RA in October (08 Subaru), just wondering what the paint codes or names I should get? I want it to look close to what it does on the box. Also, does it need to be polycarbonate paint from Tamiya or will any Tamiya paint work well?

It has to be a polycarb paint, it is a standard lexan body, even then make sure you clean it really well and do thin coats. These bodies take a beating and some paint will come off regardless.

Tamiya recommends a Mica blue I believe.

I used a Pactra rattle can paint just based on the lid color, it came out pretty close... Maybe a hair dark.

What would be one of the 1st things you would upgrade, the steering system? I've been doing some reading on it and it seems that mostly everybody that has one says that the steering is a bit sloppy.

The steering is not bad at all, a little slop, but nothing to complain about, the first thing if I was you would be to rework the rear diff with some 3racing all metal diff outputs and Traxxas slipper pegs. The rear diff is the only problem with the car in my experience, but this helps tremendously.

A slipper clutch system would be a pretty good idea as well.

Another thing that is a little frustrating is getting rocks stuck in the steering, but as posted perviously you can use some shrink wrap around the steering linkage to keep rocks out. I super glued it to the chassis and I don't have issues with it anymore.

Good call on the paint scheme, the only thing that will slow you down is no intake slit in the hood, but you should be able to get it pretty close. Are you going to cut your own decals?

Oh I forgot to mention it comes with the big rear spoiler, but I noticed that a lot of the European RC Rally guys are making small ones that come off the roof line, that should help the look you are after.

I'm going to try this one:

I'll try my hand at cutting the decals first, but if they don't turn out I'll just go to one of the sign shops around here to see if they'd be able to come up with something.

As for the spoiler I should be able to fab something up, I have some styrene here (probably not going to last long lol).


These do look like a lot of fun, I always wanted an on road car, but I've been a rally fan for a long time and playing in the dirt is always fun :mrgreen:

Really? I saw Pat Richard racing an STi in the CRC (Canadian Rally Championship) a season or two ago with it. Hmm, maybe it'll be a replica of David's car then lol, I love that paint scheme.


Edit: NVM, it was David Higgins I saw racing it. So it will be a David Higgins replica then (or at least inspired), at least the full size wing can be used.
