So my buddy Chad (Rockrigcustoms) asked if I could build him a custom one off transfer case for a charity build he's gonna be starting. He is scaling down an actual 1:1 mega truck and wants to get the details right. This is the one in the 1:1

It will be a bit of a challenge but its for a good cause so I started figuring on how to build it. First I got together with him on what gear ratio would work for him. We found the best gears that I could work with and ended up with 11, 18, 25 which should put the final ratio to the outdrives at about 2.5 :1 Not quite as low as he wanted but there are ways to fix that somewhere else.

Gears came in and I went to work measuring and figuring out how to build this thing.

Just getting the hole locations right.

Once I had those numbers I got to drawing up a little sketch of some rough dimensions and geometry.

Lol I'm pretty sure this will be a one of a kind thing. The amount of work involved makes it only practical for a charity type build where I don't care about the time into it. There is $40 just in gears and bearings going into it. Add that to the machine/design time and its just not worth it

We are very greatful to have Joe onboard for the "Fighting Chance" Racing team build. This truly will b a center piece for this rig. Can't wait to see what the mad scientist comes up with!!!"thumbsup"

OK here is an update on the transfer case: I got the major parts done now. I am short on bearings so I have to wait on going any further for now. All that's left to do is drill and tap both sides and bolt them together, then cut away the excess aluminum to give it the correct shape. After that it will just need the outer plates for mounting and a polish.

Its getting there. I can only work on it during lunch break so it gets about 45min a day lol. Slow going I know.

Not much of an update but I got all of the shafts made up from hardened steel. The bearings are in now. Next week I will get it all bolted together and cut to shape. More pics soon too

Well I got the rough shape cut out tonight. I also had to adjust a few things after it was bolted together. It took some time but I got it spinning nice and smooth now.

After it was put together and turning smoothly I put the input shaft into the lathe and let it spin at 3000 rpm for about 5 min. It never made any noise and didn't build up any heat. I think its close to being done now. I still need to polish it up and make the mounting plates too.

And now its basicly done! I think I'm gonna engrave the "SCS" into the front like the real one but that's about it. It spins nice and smooth and it passed the speed/load test. The scale proportions are off but there was not much I could do about that with the gears I used. Overall I think it will look and work pretty decent on the Fighting Chance rig. I can't wait to see the build get under way!

I can't wait to see it take shape! You did a great job on all the tube work you did for me. I'm sure this will be a sweet build!
