I have a ax10 & am wanting to switch the frame to a SCX 10 or X-trail chassis since Im not going to comp the rig ever.... Not sure what to call what Im wanting, Tough Truck? Basicly I want something that can do it all (not 100% scaler or crawler.) I even concidered puting on a proline tuber & panles, but not sure thats what I want either. If i had the $$$ Id probably buy the wrathe?

If I change to a SCX 10 or X-trail or will my wheel base stay the same? I have a new Newbright 4door JK (the popular one everyone wanted for the longest time) & trying to figure out if it will work on there. what else do I need to make the switch? Maybe a differant (cheep) chassis than listed above? Not looking to spend a ton of $.

Any help would be appriciated..

if i had the money? i prolly upgrade to a computer with spell check"thumbsup"

Or one for yourself that capitalizes when needed! :flipoff:

I would consider the SCX10 chassi. Your transmission will bolt right up compared to having to custom make something. The Chassis is the "main" difference between the SCX10 and AX10. Other things you may need are different link lengths to fit the desired body. The NewBright JK uses a little over 13 inch wheelbase. That is longer then the stock of about 12.5. Using the SCX10 frame will not change the wheelbase of the AX10. There are many different ways to change the wheelbase and what works best is up to the rig and owner. Some lengthen the links on one axle and others both axles. I have seen where some have used 106mm lower links front and rear and it looks to fit the NewBright JK very well. What you use for upper links will depend on if you change from the stock configuration to a 4 link, etc. There is too much to list here, but there are many JK builds on here that you can search and do some homework on. It is not a quick and easy change and will not be very cheap either. If buying links and other parts seem too much, then a less expensive route would be to pick up a Proline JK. It uses about a stock AX10/SCX10 honcho 12.5 wheelbase. You could actually find a way to mount it to the stock AX10 and call it good without a new frame. Although going the scale frame route is much better in my opinion.

Oh snap! A spell check, highjack, backlash, putdown! That's funny right there, I don't care who you are!
Go with the SCX 10, it will be an easier crossover. But with the New Bright jeep bodies, you might have to get a longer frame(?). Maybe? Not sure of the length of the body. An SCX 10 frame from front to rear is 16 1/4 inches, give or take a millimeter or two.

I saw the mistakes made on the spell check thread, but didnt want to reply. Unfortinatly, Im disabled & I live my life in pain so am on pain killers alot of the time. So a tiny mistake now & then is to be expected. (not to mention hooked on phonics is crap & realy screws with your ability to spell proper english.)

I plan on looking for some builds to get a better idea, just wanted to get a bit of info before I just buy a chassis & find out it wont work.

The N.B. JK is about 18" minus the bumpers.

We were not busting on you Airdreams, just the other guy who was busting on you. So do not worry. "thumbsup"

The SCX10 frame can work very well with a Jk. I can confirm that 106mm lowers does fit the NewBright JK very well. I am working on mine right now and the wheelbase is set and looks perfect with those links. I am working now on keeping as much of the interior while keeping the trans in the stock place (the spur gear will rub the interior). And some other things as well as I am running a fairly modified SCX10 and not starting from a stock kit. I had changed a few things in its last state and body. If you want to make things as easy as possible, I would definitely vote for the SCX10 frame.

got a link to your build? I need to do a bunch of resurch. May be traiding my Juggernaut & geting a whole SCX10 roler. well see how it goes. that way I could keep a full blown crawler & still have a scale basher. Ultmatly I want a Maisto Bus body or may even try a Bug & turn it into a baja? The JK is a temporary body. (incase you all cant tell Im a VW nut!)

Im even working on getting a 1/1 samurai, stretching the frame & putting my baja body on it. Its a hell of a project fo just me, so Im trying to round up some slave laborers.LOL I have the tools & knoledge & abilitys, just not the phisical ability to do all the muscling. I just like having something totaly differant! (ive seen several stock bug bodys on yota frames, but never a Baja & never on a Samurai)

If you were talking about me as far as a build, no I do not have one. As many times as I change my mind, I would never get through a build to completion. That is with the end result being what I started for, it always changes:roll:. Too many cool parts/tires/whatever to keep catching my eye and make me want it.

There are a ton of JK builds on the forums here. That body has been out for quite a while. I am sure you can find some good information looking at those build threads. If there is anything I could help with, feel free to ask in your post or pm. I am no expert but have built a few rigs and been into rc a long time.

shipping on the truck was delayed till monday....

bought a RC4wd R2 trans with disconect for the new build.. I know absolutly nothing about them at all. But thought it look smaller than a stock axial & being able to shift from 2 to 4 wheel drive would be prety cool.

Can I use a 116oz mg micro servo to disconect the front drive line? Or would a mini or even a full size be better? if a larger is needed what oz would be best, etc.

I have a Spektrum DX3 with 3 way switch mod, but Im still trying to learn the radio so later I may have some questions on that as well. (Sorry if that sounds strange, but you have to understand that Ive only owned antique radios till this one! like Futoba Magnum JR, Magnum sport, Attack & similar. Just this last year I did get a Hitec Agressor CRX & Lynx 3D + Airttonics Caliber 3PS, but havent used any of them so Im like a total Noob at anything remotly like the newer radios. LOL)

The RC4WD tranny is decent, but loud and since there is no Spur gear, gearing can be challenging. As far as the DIG goes try to make sure the linkage for 2x4 to 4x4 is as straight as possible. Also make sure to set your end points on the radio or you'll burn up the servo. Good luck with your build

still no truck.... So no update.
Guess if it doesnt show up soon Ill just have to call it a loss. Then tare down my TLT crawler sell the chassis & use the axles. + Ill have to make a chassis since I dont have the $ to buy one.

loss?
Did you trade with someone here, on RCC?

I have not used the R2 but 116oz should be more than enough for it.
and you know my thoughts on the VW Bug "thumbsup"
