Drag racing scx-10

Wondering if any one had built such a machine???

(not saying that i would build such a thing to compete in say an imdra event)

well i got bored today and got to thinking about making a drag truck.... yeah yeah i know thats not what the scx10 was designed to do but hey.... whats the point in having a scale truck if your not going to make it unique right???

so after seeing some of the things that are being done to the scx-10 as of late... squirrelod and his f-off build, djmedic2008 and his recent dually trail honcho, some of the koh (king of the hammer)builds i dont see why it couldnt be done

as of right now the thought in my head would be to eliminate the 4wd completly and just make it a rwd platform (unless i could find a way to transfer power front and rear 20/80 sealed diffs?)

i mean aside from brushless motor and esc, ? 8 cell lipo, beefy 2 speed rwd tranny (hardened gears), beefy drive shaft, swap out the shocks, and springs for that of much stiffer thicker, steel drag links, most possibly replace the rear axle completly for one off the wraith or that of a sealed axle) mostly because i would fear bending/breaking/destroying the axel shafts with the ammount of torque)??? replacement of all the bearings with that of ceramic high temp, 1/8 scale rear street tires???)

what else might have to be replaced or beefed up in order to handel say a 6-8 cell brushless motor and esc combe (dual tekin 1350kv motors come to mind) J/S.... hahaha

secondly any idea on a transmission axle ccombo that could with stand the torture i would plan to throw @ it??? i mean i can have parts fabbed but theres no point in re inventing the wheel if it already exists just with the need for some polishing.... as they say you can polish poo but if it cant do what i want @ the end of the day all i would have is shiny shit... thanks for any input.... function over form

To answer that question i know you are all asking in the back of your heads no i am not looking to make a 60+ mph drag machine... im just thinking proof of concept @ 35mph or so... would be a good start (and the dual motor was a joke for the most part)

I say 35mph because i know that the more power i throw @ it the more modifications i will have to do to the entire drivetrain....

I drag race, 8s is not needed. Unless you like broken parts and Backflips. Even the extreme class car's don't run it. I run driveline car's ( d8 truly ring and pinion) on a custom spool. I run super gas and 1.05 class, and only run a 2 s pack and have been 1.5's at over 80 . And have still shattered a ring and pinion, Wich are stronger that what's currently available for the crawler's. I'd race you for pink's. but try it out man.

oh yeah i know 8s is not needed but neither are dual 1350kv motors thats just a massive ammount of torqure thats just going to twist drive lines and shatter axle housings

Diesel drag truck 4x4 but then it would look just like a scale build, get an aluminum trans case, steel gears
And lipo and go!! But deff to be different 2wd and if you could find a IFS front to slide I'n there and do a linked rear would be super cool !!

speaking of diesel powered drag truck this it mostly what inspired the thought of this build

this truck belongs to dieselpowerproducts.com and as y\ou can see its a very nice business card

i normally dont lke the look of a dodge but that looks pretty cool

yeah normally dodges are way to "glits and glam" for me but i guess when you drop in 12 cylinders paint it black and suck in all the fat it really dont look so bad.... and the 355's on the rear actually make it look bad ass... beats all the jacked up road queen dodges im use to seeing...

I think a diesel type truck would be cool. I'd try running a rustler try for more speed.

the problem i have with most 2wd vehicles such as the rustler and most of the losi stuff... and well most buggy platforms (yes they throw longer front arms on to make them in to a "stadium truck) is that the motor is behind the axle kind of like a porsche which imho defeats the purpose of keeping a scale concept... thanks for throwing out the idea though....

though keeping scale is or would be the purpose behind this build ..... is still throwing around many platforms and concepts as to how i would go about not only the base platform and what it would take to make a worthy electric based "scale" drag car

motor/transdiff placement, electronics placement weight distrobutition.... if it would be a good idea or not to use a "kit" or not to even start with beings that 99% of it would be replaced....

but then that leads in to many other questions and problems....

sorry i ment rustler[ tranny.] i typed the last one with my phone. hands are big ,phone is small.;-) i'll be using a rustler tranny in my foff with wheely king axles . and 4s. more top end.

I've been thinking about this alot lately, but maybe with a set of "tractor pulling" tires in the rear. It's the cost of the motor/ESC thats been the big problem since I don't know what would work and I don't want to buy a couple of different just to try. I'm thinking RWD would make it cheaper and easier but 4wd with an open diff in front would make it faster.

any up grades to this tranny you might suggest??? it is a planitary out drive transmission right?

Just use the vxl tranny , i havent broke one yet. Just turn that puppy sideways and go . Hoppup parts for them are cheap. They even have a spool for them, and the option of using the slipper is nice.
