SCX10 II IFS Prerunner, Help Needed!

I'm looking to build a SCX10 II based IFS Prerunner build with the Element IFS conversion kit.

I've looked on this forum and the SGB forums for similar builds without much luck of finding a simple one. I'm not looking to fab any parts, maybe 3D print a couple, but no brazing, ect.

So far my plan is to install the IFS conversion, put in a 2-speed transmission, and some kind of long travel trailing arms and the parts to go with it, except for that fact that I can't really find any info about installing longer trailing arms to fit 100 or even 110mm dual shocks in the rear.
I'm a bit familiar with the SCX10 II chassis, but I haven't attempted modding a rig this much.


Any experience/advice/information in building a Prerunner SCX10 II would be very much appreciated.
 
I'll give it a go at helping you out. I more or less went off the deep end with my Element SCX-IFS prerunner but there are ways to bolt parts together and make things work. Just got to get a little creative.

Take your 10.2 and strip it down to the bare chassis. Mount the IFS with the 3d printed plate along with front shocks and wheels tires if you can. Since the IFS is fixed in place you'll want your body placement to be based on the front end.
Next you will want to mount your body, be it with screws or posts/body clips, etc.

Now take your back axle, remove all links, bolt up wheels and tires and flip your chassis and mounted body upside down. Take your rear axle assembly just lay it in where your fender wells are. This is for a truck type body where at full suspension bottom out, the axle is centered in the wheel wells. Now you can measure how long of a trailing arm you will need to make up the wheelbase you need. This is the tricky part as sort of pre-made trailing arms (like off other kits) are either too short or two long. You can get creative and make some sort of mount on the chassis to make a Yeti trailing arm work with your wheelbase, but shock location is also a consideration. You should also consider mounting trailing arms outside of the chassis.

Now there are ways to kind of make things work, but I spend a lot of time around full size desert trucks and would rather point you in the direction of making one that is similar from a functionality standpoint. I wish there was an easy answer or maybe a full "prerunner 10.2 conversion kit in a box" but until then, enjoy the challenge. Whatever you come up with, you'll learn a lot and will certainly make changes down the road.

Here's my build thread you might be able to use for reference. Page two is when I started using the Element IFS. Also don't be afraid to look at pics of 1:1 prerunners and desert trucks also. Those are almost more helpful than looking at pics of RCs.

I ran 110mm and even 120mm shocks and was able to stay at factory ride height on my TRX4 sport by using taller shock towers. There were some aftermarket options that increased the upper mount holes 10mm

I imagine something similar could work for the rear of the scx10

Also twinhammers lower trailing arms may be short enough. They were shorter than bomber/wraith/etc arms.
 
Thanks!, I did a bit more research and found that brazing is actually a pretty nice skill to have. I went and ordered a torch and some other stuff to go along with it.

I'll try my hand at it, and maybe make my own trailing arms from it.
