I've got an AX10 Deadbolt. Thinking about an SCX10 for my next one. Can anybody tell me the differences between the SCX10 Deadbolt and the II?

If you're looking at the RTR II, the biggest difference will be the axles and metal links. The axles on the II are a big improvement over the old ones (stock CVDs instead of dog bones, smaller pumpkins, etc.). The metal links on the RTR 2 are better than the plastic ones on the Deadbolt, but they're not great as far as metal links go. If you're looking at the II kit, it comes with an all-new tranny, nicer aluminum links, and some added body details (esp. the roof rack) vs. the RTR.

The II just came out so aftermarket is limited but it is growing.

I would definitely buy a II over an original SCX10. The steering is far superior, it comes with links that are not floppy plastic, the diffs are much smaller and wont get hung up on everything, and its better balanced.

So not much of the older SCX stuff translates to the II? Sounds like quite a refresh. I've read a lot of guys are moving parts between SCXs and AX10s, Wraiths. Not much in the parts bin will work on this guy it seems.

If you're buying the RTR, the only thing that is completely new is the axles. Everything else is interchangeable. If you are buying the kit, the axles and transmission are all new, and everything else is interchangeable. And even with the kids, they include a skid predrilled to mount the old transmission if you want to put one into the truck instead of the new transmission. Chassis rails are identical other than the addition of a few extra mounting holes in the new version. Cross braces, bumper mounts and skids are all interchangeable.

Ok. Thanks for all the info. Seems like a well thought out platform.
It really is. It's quite a bit better in many ways.

The main improvments over the original are:

Steering (much more steering angle, the old SCX needs $100 in upgrades to compete)

Better axles (high pinion improves clearance, as does smaller pumpkin)

More reliable c-hubs, steering knuckles, and CVDs

MUCH Less torque twist

MUCH better links

Front mount battery out of the box (this is the single biggest upgrade to a scaler IMHO)

Better side to side balance, and better front bias than most SCX10s (honcho may have better front bias, but the weight is up too high)

Better scale looks with the axles and chassis mounted servo

There are likely more improvements, but it's hard to remember them all!
