I’m ready to upgrade my stock traxxas servo now that I am going to be installing a HH torque master and a firma 40a esc combo from a 10.3. I do some trails and some crawling. I’d like to find something waterproof for peace of mind. I’m trying to stay under or around $100. Ideally I’d like to run the servo of the firma for simplicity but if need be I’ll install a BEC. I really don’t want to worry about direct power and another set of batteries etc when I go out crawling for a day. I am currently only running 2s packs. Most of the servo threads I read through were from 2017-2019 and a lot of them are now discontinued.

HH sh 650...strong,silent,effortable:mrgreen:"thumbsup"

I’m trying to find a decent option that’s not direct power at the moment because I don’t want to deal with extra batteries but if I am forced to go that route the shv500v3 is on my list for sure along with the promodeler.

the new hh 650 can run off reciver power like a normal servo or you can break things by connecting it to the main battery no seperate battery needed it has a standerd servo plug and uses a adaptor for direct power if you choose that route
the sv500 is a great servo for sure i have one but there chatty if you know what i mean more along the lines of savox servo loud and strong

savox is also i cheaper brand a steel gear 500in oz are about $70-80 but they are loud

ive had pretty good luck with the cheap 25kg servos on 1.9 rigs they usualy last a year or 2 not to bad for $20

If your only running 2s you can solder the servo power and ground wires right to the esc power wires. No BEC or fancy adapter harnesses needed.

At this point most of my fleet is converted over to Promodeler servos as lesser units die off. The 630 is perfect for your application. Nothing wrong with the Holmes servos either.

I just put a Holmes 800 in my trx4. You don't need a separate battery for direct powered servos, they are easy to use. Just put in a jst connecter on the ESC battery plug.

I’ve got a SHV500 v3 in mine and it works great, I’ll try a SHV650 next time round.

I appreciate all of the info guys! Going to be a tough choice but I’m leaning towards Holmes, shift rc, or pro modeler for something made in the USA.

i think prodeler is the only one "made" in the us even holms farms his servos out to china thats how we got so many HH clone servos like jx,shift , reefs, and so on
not all of them are direct copys some are.just bassed off of HH but redesigned them to be better than the original but the new ones are still better than the compatition the rest have to play catch up

nearly everyone is forced to use Asia MNFCRS.
I've been using Reefs servos mostly. Have had excellent luck with them.
444 or 555 would be great servos in a TRX4 IMO. the 555 puts out a consistent torque of over 650 oz inches.
444 is a fast servo but can be slowed down on some controllers and the 555 is not as fast and a bit more suited IMO.

Shfits, NDSRC, Reefs all seem to be slightly different servos made by AGF. But they are all us hobby resellers if you will that have their own versions built on their specs. Reefs have the ability to be programmed and all that is done inhouse in AZ i think it is.

Find one you like at the price you want to drop. all of them are pretty decent.

Servos are one of those things that are a Get What You Pay For kind of buy.
