Out of my mind!!
I am going to go hunting in two weeks, and plan on stalking some largish game, like pigs, axis deer, and/or turkey (if I see one). However, all I have is a .22 LR (out of the ?), and a 12-Gauge Maverick 88 (basically a mossberg 500). As far as shells, what do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance.

probably buck shot, or slugs.. is that what you mean?

I have 0000 buckshot, I think that's it, anyways, its the largest size (9 pellets), and the smallest size buckshot (27 pellets), as well as some slugs, rifled, not the sabots. Do you guys know how accurate the slugs can be? I am using the stock hunting barrel, and I have full and improved cylinder chokes. At what ranges do you recommend I use these types of shells? Thanks in advance.

with a slug about 50 yards for the most accurate shot..for the buckshot, eh about 4-45 I would say..

12 Gauge 3 1/2"magnum with slug. 80 yards dead on. Remington 870 Express pump 30" modified barrel

Leave the .22, are U crazy:lol:? If the hunting is slow, I use it to shoot targets, and such w/o making too much noise, further reducing the chances of finding game. It works well for single birds, and rabbits. I bought some good bullets for it, Zappers, and CCI Velocitors. I also have some CB bullets for the .22 (they don't have powder, only primer). My friend said they hit with about the same force as a BB gun. Has anyone ever eaten rattlesnake? I tried gator in Louisanna last week (again), and I still loved it! It was inside of a sausage. What stores can you get sabot rounds from?

slugs for a shotgun just make sure if you have a choke in it to take it out. when you shot the slug it will blow the choke out too

Cool, thanks guys. Is that your setup JIA's Dad?

One of them!!!!

Also have
12 ga. Winchester Mod.1200 pump with 28" modified (had since I was 12)
16 ga. Winchester Mod. 12 pump 28" modified (Fairly Rare)
12 ga. Remington 1187 sporting Clays 30" with 5 screw in chokes
20 ga. Remington 870 Light Weight pump

What can I say I love my guns. These are just a few of about 35 or so of the guns I own."thumbsup"

There's nothing wrong with that, just so long as people use them properly, as you have. Otherwise, you would'nt be around, especially with the 12-gauge you';ve had since you were 12. What other types of guns do you have, if you would'nt mind sharing? Has anyone had any problems firing slugs wit hchokes installed? This is the 1st duckgun I have that uses chokes, so I don't know. BTW, it was a Brolin with the home-defense (short) barrel. It had bottom loading and ejection, which was very nice.

i wouldnt recomend hunting a pig with a shotgun.. when i went for mine..(with a bow) there were guys with hi power rifles having to take 2nds and 3rd shots to finish them... and the 45 mag revolvers were plopping bullets of there forheads.. they have very tough skin..

Thanks for the choke info., guys. I wonder, then, what should I do about the slugs? Shoot it without a choke, an IC choke, or just stick to buckshot? As far as whether to hunt pigs or not, I'll be bringing my friend along as a back-up shooter should my fail to incapacitate the pig. Here he is:twisted:.
