Hey guys. I have a brand new SV3. I programmed it for brushed mode with my castle link, and hooked it up. When I try to calibrate, it never gives me the beeps.

After calibration, the ESC lights behave as they should (when in full forward throttle LED is green, when in neutral it is yellow, and brake gives me red). The only problem is, is that the power delivery is off. In neutral the motor is going full blast. In throttle, it is braking, and in braking, it is in reverse. I have tried reversing my throttle channel on my radio and re-calibrating but it acts the same.

I have tried updating the firmware, and that didn't help. Any ideas here?

I'm starting to think it's bad. It is applying motor power while calibrating. It should NOT do that.

UPDATE:

I switched it back to brushless mode with the link. Then I PROPERLY hooked up a brushless motor. Then, while calibrating, it started smoking and puffed my lipo. Got so hot the connectors all de-soldered. Well, this one is going back to Amazon lol. Thanks for trashing my brand new battery, Castle!

They didn't get the Castle Cremations nickname for nothing! :lmao:

Sorry to hear about your luck. Check out HobbyWing or Tekin for reliable ESCs.

I just had an sv3 start ticking and not functioning properly, sent it in to castle for repair/replace and 45$ and a week later the new one was on my desk. I hooked everything up as per instructions, went to calibrate the throttle and one of the caps blew right away. Another new one is on the way to exchange with the now dead new one. I got lucky and didnt puff my lipo, just got warm.

This seems odd. I know I've had several of the older SV2's that were dead on arrival, but I've had great luck with the SV3, provided you properly set it up for brushed/brushless motor type before soldering it in and trying to use it. I must have 6 of these SV3's and they've all held their magic smoke in.

Got any pictures of your setup? Are you triple positive none of your solder joints at the motor are touching? Have you run the motor successfully with another ESC? Sorry to ask dumb-sounding questions, I'd just hate to see another one die.

I own several Castle ESCs. I have had one blow up on me and it was just a dud out of the box. I plugged it in and it made my motor stutter a few times then went sizzle sizzle pop and released the magic smoke. That was a Mamba Monster X.
