I'm curious if any gun folks have an idea on what the value of an sks would be.

From what i can tell,
-It's russian
-The stock isn't laminated but refurbished
-All the numbers match
-10 round clip
-The top piece doesn't have a date stamp, but from other indicators i've read, it was made in 55' or 56'
- It's in decent condition

I have had an even dozen. China, mostly. I got rid of my last one in a trade. Rus. Ones are worth alot more. No help on worth. The platform is the rodney dangerfield of battle rifle. If my fat butt was in real danger I would reach for one of those over the allmighty ar every time.
just as long as we are clear, I was of no help what so ever here. Lol

Being a Russian SKS makes it more valuable. 300-400 most likely. I've owned a few of them over the years and am always amazed at how accurate they are for how crudely they are made. What I love about them vs the AK is that there is no mag to lose or fall out. Disadvantage is that it only holds 10 rounds at a time.

I'm from Canada so its a bit different. I can bought a non refurb for $200 at the local gun shop. Refubished guns go for $180. They get cheaper the more you buy. I can get a case of 10 if I wanted. 1300 rds FMJ surplus ammo for $250

I had a very nice Russian SKS with a bunch of valuable marking on it etc.. Thought it was worth a coin or too. Took forever to sell at $325. They just don't pull much money, a lot of people relate to them cheaply because a few years ago the Chinese ones were available for around $100

Alright, well sounds like I overpaid...oh well, its a fun to shoot.

I've looked on and off the past few months. Found some chinese ones at gun stores for 350+ tax and still in cosmoline, found some online for 310+shipping, ffl transfer fees, etc. and found some others online going for around 400+ fees. These were all chinese ones, never got a price for a russian, just that they are more valuable.

We was at the gun show and I seen afew sks's, all were well over the $500 mark. (I went in with a $400 budget). I came across a chinese one for 500 and bartered the guy down to 450 out the door. I was tempted but decided to wait. Then he said he had a russian for $695, i managed to talk him down to $520 out the door and decided I was ok with the price (It's in good condition, way better than some sks's i've seen). So my $300 budget from afew months ago turned into a $500 budget. I did have a guy offer me $500 for it while i was walking out, so i figured I got a decent deal.

I hadn't realized the price had gone up so high. I picked up my Yugoslavian SKS with the long/heavy barrel for 150$ a few years back. No, it's not for sale.

If you enjoy it, then you didn't over pay. I'd rather overpay and under sell. I still miss my socom 16 ;(

My first legal rifle was a Norinco SKS, in about 1991 I paid 78. and got to pick from a full crate. I think we were paying 80. for 1000 rounds in a cool wood box. I think they are still some of the best deals on the market. the 30 rnd conversion done legal is a great option for more ammo.
