Here is what I am looking for. A small motor 280 size can( losi Mini) that has the same or nearly the same performance as a 55 t 540 motor.
I am using the axial trans in a 1.9 class and I need the small motor size because of space issues and weight. I am trying to stick with brushed before I have to turn to the brushless motors.
Any leads would help. Thanks

The 454 is probably your best bet. It is still a bit longer than a 280 motor. Your other option is a brushless motor.

Are you limited more on length or diameter?

I am limited on the length more than diameter. But I have moved the trans off set so I can get the battery in on the side next to the trans. Length wise, a full size 540 hits my link mounts.
How about the 3745 promax motor??

The 3745 is teeny, and doesn't start up well.

I have two of the 3745's in a Cliff Climber. I am currently trying to return them for a refund.
Both motors are now stalling periodically without startup. You have to spin start them to get them going again.
The sellers fix is to pull/clean/reseat the brushes. Works for 1/2 - 1 pack and starts stalling again.

I learned my lesson with these Promax's.

I have run the 454 in a 2.2. My opinion is there is no advantage in using them in a 2.2 unless you need less wheel speed and torque.
I have a bunch of them and they are awesome motors in the right rig.

sweli,
on your 3745 I had one with similar problems. I bent the brush springs to increase the tension and cured the problem.

I enjoy the 3745 motor because it is not perfect and challenges my brain.
