So, last week I returned from a long overdue vacation. Spent a week driving through and site seeing areas of AZ, NV, and UT. Months ago this all started as just a plan to attend the opening ceremony for the new Hoover Dam bypass bridge...and soon escalated into a week long over-glorified "road trip"
I kept finding myself saying things like "well, I might as well do that too while I'm there" and "ahh hell, just splurge a bit here...and here" and so on and so forth...
On my way, I used the late afternoon of the first day to take in Hoover Dam. Spent a couple hours roaming with a powerplant tour and snapping pics, and was then soon on my way to the city of sin for the night.
It had been 20 years since I'd been to Vegas...so the plan called for staying there the night before the bridge opening, then hitting the bridge early. As it turned out I ended up not even getting to the bridge opening the next morning due to traffic and sheer numbers...so simply shrugging that off, I headed out on the rest of the planned trip earlier than expected. I soon found myself paralleling the Virgin River north out of NV through AZ and into UT stopping by in Hurricane for a nights sleep before continuing on to Zion the next morning.
Never been to Zion and have always wanted to, so I gave myself a whole day to discover that area. Well, needless to say...I need to go back since a day is no where near long enough to really see much of Zion. I need to go back and hit some of those longer hiking trails.
After spending much of the day in Zion, I made my way eastward for my final Page/Lake Powell destination. I've been to Powell several times, but the most recent was at least 10 years ago...at a time when the tub ring the lake is sporting now was non-existent. Page was where I had planned on spending most of my time, which ended up becoming 4 days. I took a couple Powell boat tours, an Antelope Canyon tour, Glen Canyon dam tour, and visited many area scenic hotspots including Horseshoe Bend.
Heading south out of Page for home, I found myself on a detour toward the Navajo Bridge at Marble Canyon near the Vermillion Cliffs and the bottom of the Grand Staircase. Then a "boring" ride home through Flagstaff, Sedona, Camp Verde, Payson, etc...scenery I've seen many times over. Not really bad scenery...just ho-hum based on areas previously in the trip that spoiled me :ror:
Here are some of the pics I've gotten out of the camera, post edited, and uploaded at this point. I have nearly 500 pics total of which these are a small portion.....
