Anyone out there had any experience with the new Spektrum DX3 2.4GHz radio? I'm in the market for a new radio (the old 3PS is getting tired) and this one looks pretty good. The LHS has them for 209.99, with a hi-torque metal servo.

The thought of never buying crystals is great, and the range is pretty good from what I here.

Ive heard alot of good about them. Alot of the R/C Dirt racers love them.

I personally havent used one. Im still on AM... :-(

haha yeah us dirt guys lovem I love mine its such a nice lil feature for any radio i havent had any trouble with mine on my m8 and that one they sell is rfom jr so its all quality stuff i highly recomend it

i've used one as well, and it has a lot to reccommend it. however, the 2.4 gig modulation seems a bit overkill for a crawler. since most of the time you're only 50ft away from the rig, interference isn't usually a problem. most guys here use AM systems and seem happy.

the case is a repop of the original JR XR3 (pre-"i") and it feels kinda funky, but it works flawlessly. the hi-torque servo is a Z590, so it's only got 80 ounces, marginal for a crawler but a quality unit.

i did notice a bit of delay when the receiver is first turned on. it goes to its fail-safe position until it wakes up, usually about a second.

i do like the short antennas. the RX antenna is only 6 inches long and doesn't mind being taped to an aluminum bulkhead. the stubby Tx antenna takes some getting used to, you keep wanting to pull it up.

i didn't look into the 3rd channel so i don't know how functional it is, if it can be used for rear steer or mixed, but i suspect that it can.

i thought the shiny finish and orange buttons on the Tx were a little cheesy.

overall, not a bad deal, and absolutely free of interference.

Yes it may be overkill as far as crawlers go, but I have multiple cars and would love the range. The 3rd channel is great because it is selectible from 3 different modes, one of which is is "full left-center-full right". The main reason I was wondering about it was exactly how you stated it, it looks kind of cheesy and really didn't "feel" solid if you know what I mean. Its either the new DX3 or just the module and receiver to retrofit my antique 3PS.
