So, I had an idea recently (hope it hasn't already done, if so my apologies and please let me know so I don't step on any toes) to make a new type of bead-lock wheel that would reduce the parts and hardware count, cut weight, and still keep a durable wheel with a solid hold on the tire bead.

Fast forward to today...I machined a proto 1/2" wide set in 1.9 (with G10 rings) with 9 total screws per wheel (screw count will go up on the 2.2 version) and the weight came in at just 18 grams for rim, both rings, and stainless ring hardware...and 64 grams with Rover, foam, SLW hub, and stainless hub hardware. Though light, it feels plenty strong and holds onto the bead nicely.

Thoughts?

Don

Personally, I'm excited to see a lightweight beadlock option for those of us who have no desire to glue our tires on. "thumbsup"

I've done something similar on my wheels.

(See post #53)

I just added a pvc ring that only adds about 5g per 2.2 wheel but converts glue on wheels to true bead locks.
"thumbsup"

I can take better pictures of my setup if you'd like, but the end result is very similar.

Sounds interesting...I was actually referring to a current off the shelf product that uses the same rim design I'm trying "thumbsup"

Got them mounted up on the weekend project Mini Wedge Low Pro. Very solid and crazy light.

That is killer - I would be extremely interested in what ID you could get a 1.9 with that design.

I'm in for the win on a set of 2.2

will there be different patterns for the face ring?
nothing wrong with the circles just wondering

the simplicity of the design is impressive
