Super Rooster vs. Rebel 2

I want your guys opinion on this one...

I have a brand new Rebel 2 sitting here and I just got back my Super Rooster from Novak, so it is essentially brand new as well.

Which one would you use?

It's going in a new TXT build with front and rear steering with the front being a power hungry 1/4 scale servo, if it matters...

Either will work just fine, I have both they work really well, if it's for a full blown crawler, I like the Super Rooster a little better.

I have never used a Super Rooster, so I cannot comment on it. But I have been using a TR2 since April 2005 and now I own 2 of them. I would trade them for a SRs if I had the chance.

The TR2 held up great on 2 hs-645s and 6 cells for about 4 months. I then added a 1/4 scale servo up front and it was still working great for about 2 months. But it was when I tried to add 8 cells to the mix that the Rebel 2 gave in after 2 minutes of driving and the BEC died. This came as a very big surprise since the ESC is rated for 10 cells.

I now use Novak Nitro Servo Regulators with both of my TR2s even though only one has a dead BEC. I just don't want to take the chance with the second one.

I haven't bothered to send in the ESC to Tekin, because I am in the middle of compition season and the ESC works well with the servo regulator.

At first, I had very high hopes for the Tekin Rebel 2 and I recommended it to many people, but now I don't know. It just seems like Tekin spec'd the Rebel 2 higher than what it is really capable of handling. The TR2 may have a BEC rating of 5 amps versus the SRs 3amps, but if the TR2s BEC is going to blow at 8 cells, what's the point?

The next ESC I buy will not be a TR2.

So I guess I should ask you how many cells you plan to run?

This build is defintely going to be pure crawler and run 6 cell packs.

I will also stub out of the 5th cell for receiver pack power.

Which ever one I don't use will go up for sale or trade on here since us crawlers love them both.

I run my TR2 hard, much harder than in a crawler, it's in a stock txt with dual servos, dual motors and I only run it on 8 cell, 3300 mah batteries. The truck is a thrasher not a crawler and the TR2 has held with out issue.

the TR2 is a great ESC, I have 3 of them and love them. The super chock is a good ESC but it delivers 2 amps less on the BEC. The SR has a higher amp rating though.

It comes down to if you want to run a dis-continued esc or not. You will have a good esc either way.

I had a SR Loved it.. Used it for years on many different things. Never had a problem with it at all. but ended up trading it towards a 1/8th buggy...
Personaly the BEC rating doesnt mean much to me as I would / am running a receiver pack in my txt...

I've had 3 TR2's so far and only had a problem with one of them.

I run both of my crawlers on 8 cells and on one I have 2 hitec 5998 servos. The other I'm toying with fitting 4 945's. At times it seems that even with the high BEC of the TR2 it's not putting out enough.

Tried the TR2 on 10 cells and it lasted all of 30 seconds till it fried.

I really wanted to try the rig with 10 cells with 65T to see if it gave better wheel speed with plenty of torque.

Looks like I'm goint to have to try a SR, if I can find one, for that

Apparently since the Super Rooster has been disontinued, the Novak, "Super Duty" is the replacement, installing it tonight....
