Surplus T-maxx parts into crawler?

Ok, I'm really new to this R/C crawling thing. Matter of fact, today I ordered my frist crawler pieces.

Anyways, I have a ton of T-Maxx parts, and after looking at some of the chassis designs and pics I have seen on here. My question is this, I have a ton of T-maxx parts:

upper/lower control arms
knuckles
shafts
shocks
wheels
hubs
stock links
diffs

Would this stuff be good to use in building a decent crawler? What parts look like they would work well, but would cause me problems in the long run? Just looking for some ideas to see if I should even start messing with all these extra parts I have.

Ok, point taken. I missed the sticky. Just looked through it though and found the answers to lots of my questions. Thanks again.
 
Well, I have to start on it first, but I am going to try and get this thing together. Thinking that I am going to start with locking out the axles, locking the diffs, then trying to use an old beat up rollcage as a basis for the chassis. Should give me lots of places to mount the upper and lower links and shocks. I'm thinking there's a way that I can have the front axle "float" with the upper and lower links and shocks so that it will droop/stuff without separating the driveshaft

Ok, thanks. I have a set of the metal CVDs laying around. Should I use those or will the stock plastic ones work just fine?

that depends, are you talking about the cvd's for your axles or your driveshafts? if for the driveshafts, they will be too short and you will need to extend them.

The metal ones I have are for the axles and the driveshafts. The driveshaft ones are actually for a 1.5" stretched T-maxx chassis, so I'm hoping they will work in a non-stretched/homemade chassis.

Another question:
Was planning on using an E-maxx tranny for this. Why does the majority of everyone run a single motor instead of the 2 like E-maxxs came with??
 
because of runtimes and weight. besides, one motor has enough power and torque to get the job done..

my buddy has basically a stock maxx. he was over here the other day running my course out back. he went through 4 batteries to my one battery and i still had juice in my pack.

Ok, so if I am going to run just one motor, what (if anything) do I need to do to the speed controller to run only one motor?

Also, is it really necessary to run the gear reduction (GD-600 I think) that some guys run? Basically looking for info on how to set it up with one motor and all. I was finding the E-maxx motor mount plate on Ebay and I have read that I can use a T-maxx tranny.

Any more info would be great.
