Talk me out of RC4WD Fuel Offroad Hostage 2.2's

I had a set.... looked great, very nice finish.... never even got em on the dirt. If you plan on ever taking them off, don't put the center caps on, I know what you're thinking,"that's what make them cool".The super small scale bolts are a very soft material and the the little tool they send is even softer. I wound up taking a button head bolt and grinding a little off all the way around to fit in the recess of the center cap area..... worked, but, always afraid of stripping out while on the trail . Long story I know, but I only kept those wheels about 4 days before making another wheel choice..... go with gear heads. Big heads on their wheels and hubs

For that price you could buy Locked up, Supershafty, SSD, or even VP. Everyone I listed would be easily a better wheel than the RC4WD. That's just a matter of opinion. I have owned them all and the Super Shafty wheels are my favorite currently. I love Locked up's stuff to"thumbsup"

I had the Fuel Mavericks for a little while. They look spectacular but those tiny scale bolts that hold the hub caps on were garbage. Every time I took my wheels off I would lose at least one. If you put them even finger tight, they would round off a little...I wont ever buy another set unless they figure out another way to secure the center cap.

RC4WD's SLW type hubs are not compatible with many others
as the 6 holes do not line up the same (spaced differently).
ie: Vanquish just for example

So if ya go with RC4WD, you'll need stick with using their available hubs.

Even the chinese knock off hubs/wheels sold on ebay can utilize Vanquish SLW hubs as long as ya use a 4-40 screw.
As the holes align the same as Vanquish and others.

The chinese SLW knock off wheels use 3mm machined screws rather then Vanquish's 4-40 threading.
But the Vanquish SLW hubs could be drilled out and utilize a backing nut for securing wheels to their hubs.

those rc4wd wheels are overpriced you can get something much nicer for less from Vanquish, Lockeduprc, Super Shafty, motoworx, gearhead, the scale shop etc..

I have a few sets of RC4WD wheels. Theyre bloody nice.
VP are just generally overpriced to buggery.

At the end of the day, you dont need others to tell you what to run, if you like them, buy them and go drive your rig.

Vp is cheaper than these wheels. Atleast the Methods are.

Really it comes down to this...If you like the looks of them enough, those crappy little scale bolts may not bother you. Just be sure to buy a real tool from Locked Up RC, a bunch of spare hardware, and be careful when tightening them down.

My point wasn't to defame or badmouth RC4WD's products.
Their stuff can be a hit or miss deal... (mfgr'd in china)
Some products are great... and some are not so great.

The only point I was attempting to make is...

If ya use RC4WD components/hardware...
You likely need stick with what available options RC4WD offers.
As many of their offerings are not compatible nor interchangeable with other
aft. mrkt. products.

I personally don't like to be limited to using only a single distributor.

But I must admit I've used many RC4WD components and hardware
during my scratch build altercations/modifications.

Purdy much anything mfgr'd in china has the possibility of lacking in quality control.

Hence... hit or miss

If ya like them... buy them

Just realize you will likely need re-visit RC4WD to purchase what optional components they have to offer.

At this piunt, im leaning towards LockedUp. I like the ease of their package deals. And that they make a rimg to fit ProLine tires if i go that route...

Now. What brand of tirrs works best with LockedUp and Vanquish?

Thanks for all of the help guys!

Any brand tire will work with most any brand of wheel. The only wheels that have actual issues are rc4wd. Some of them don't have enough room for the bead so they literally cut the bead off the tire.

Proline tires will fit any of the wheels out there but some take a bit of work.

IMO putting up a post of this nature answers your own question. You obviously question the wheel in point. I would never bash a vendor. I appreciate everyone that produces cool products for us crazy/scale addicts. RC4WD makes amazing scale items, tires, bodies. Outside of that I've had wheels from them recently that stripped right out of the box with no wrenching necessary. I would love if they revisited their materials used in all their metal products. They have super cool designs. Example..... I'm a Toyota guy and would never trust their Yota axles....... sad...

I got a set of rc4wd 2.2 raceline wheels, and they are POS!

Weak hardware, and cutting beads on tires.
Good times.

OK... I'm really liking the SLW packages! "thumbsup" Dang... But it would be nice if they offered those in black.

we offer 2.2s in black and are know for our quality and bead holding."thumbsup"
