Tekin 3100kv vs Castle 3800kv, same speed?

Ran both motors on the same 2s battery, same gearing, same esc, you name it. (Axial Bomber)

But yet I'm not seeing a difference in speed?

Are the kv ratings between the motor companies the same?

First impressions, the Tekin has more torque all around, but I do feel the wheel speed is faster on the Castle, gps begs to differ. Haven't gotten a chance to run other than straightaways on asphalt.

Having a Tekin 3100 in my yeti it is a beast! I ran a castle 3800 in my SCT truck, noticed far less power on the ground wheel weight and size similar.

Tekin and Holmes motors are violence in a can . Castle makes consistent motors. My usage was on 3S only.

In the end I sold all my castle(except a 3800 non sensor) and run Holmes and a pair of Tekins

Hang up and Drive

I'm thinking kv ratings are much like battery C ratings, that is their mostly made up for the sake of internet comparison. Plus you never know if those ratings are unloaded or what. I think its fairly safe to compare kv motors all from the same manufacturer, but not neccessary from different manufacturers. If anything it'd be a rough ballpark comparison.

I think as you increase the voltage its easier to tell the difference between different kv motors. For the sake of research are you able to replicate your test on a 3s pack?

Just curiously, whats your gearing, tire size, and what speed did you reach?

Yes I'll throw the 3s in it this evening

17/56 pinion/spur, factory Ar60 gearing, factory tcase/transmission, axial/bfg 2.2 tires with CI foams

Mamba x and the same tuning, but I will recalibrate and run 2s one more time.

The caslte system has data logs that would tell you the rpm of the motors you're using. See what you grt with both motors. Are you running the 1406 or 1410 castle motor? (Shouldn't make a difference in speed, but just curious)

My thought....

I suspect the Tekin has more tq so it can get to the same speed as the castle.... The castle is probably running out of power to push the truck faster..

1410, even though they still use the smaller shaft

I will pull data and see what it says, not sure if it still has any of the Tekin logs but I plan on switching back

Possibly, the Castle is still very zippy, and it'll spin the tires out the gate, but it sounds as if it takes longer to reach full accel

Whereas the Tekin was almost direct off the line

3S Runs

The only difference between the two is tire size, the Tekin setup had 2.1 ProLine Badlands, which are wider but lighter wheel than what I'm running now.

2.2 BFG with Axial Plastic Beadlocks

So theres a slight difference on 3s.

30mph is blistering for a Bomber. Its gotta be almost uncontrollable topped out!

Does everything stay cool with that tall gearing? Im guessing with the open diffs this is more of a basher than a crawler?

Tracks pretty well with the open diffs! And handles great with the 3s on the center tray instead of up in the front compartment

I'm U4 racing and trail running, no crawling

Ran the Tekin this morning with the SAME everything, tires, gearing, you name it

And it's actually a hair faster than the Castle 3800kv on 2S, probably the same speed with some GPS allowance
