Had this one for about a month now. I really dig it. went together well. Made the same changes to this one that I had to my 2 past VP kits (lockedup hardware) from the get-go and have enjoyed it since. I did buy the fancy blue aluminum lock rings and shock caps. The shock caps suck. I couldn't keep them from leaking until I gave up and slapped some Oaties' plumbers paste on the threads. Well, not so much as "slapped" but coated with a q-tip. That seemed to stop the deluge of oil during every run. I did someone else trick of trimming the overspray film off the seats and painting them on the opposite side. It came out really well. The color is something I mixed up with hobby-lobby water based airbrush paint. I wanted it a little light, more sea foam, but it is def. different. I keep batting around the idea of the aluminum housings but I like the look of these.

I am trying the new Power Hobby SM 1100 steering servo. it has 1100 in/oz @ 8.4 Volts and it will absolutely shake the truck around! I'm going to pick up a pair of their LP250 servos for shifting duties as soon as my LHS can get them.

Love the use of giant LEGO blocks as your, ehemm whatever they're called.

Very nice!

Where'd you source that orange cooler in the back from?

Had some time on our last camping trip of the year to bust out the toy truck. Great weather and found a new spot at North Bend state park.

Trying out the gold shock shafts and machined pistons this week. Hope to make it out to my normal spot later today. I also picked up some new tires/wheels to try too.

A few have mentioned the contact between the lower panhard screw and the knuckle. I noticed this as well when installing a few of the VP aluminum rod ends. I used a normal ball but ground down the outer lip to make it jut a mm or 2 shorter. With that done I'm getting full travel now.

Looks great! Nice outdoor pics!

Curious to hear how the shock shafts and pistons are working out for you!

Truck looks great, terrible.

Looks like you have run both Rock Beasts and KM3's on it. You have a preference?

They didn't really make a huge difference. But I've got pitbull shocks on my other 2 VP rigs so I have a really high bar set for these se8's. The shafts seemed to have brought the stiction down but TBH I probably could have done without the pistons. I think they really only change things in something like a race buggy or truck because of the side loading the shocks see. Same goes for fancy machined nylon internal hardware. With us driving out trucks so slow, unless you are a complete boob when it comes to buiding shocks a well built stock shock (with no leaks) performs just fine.

With that being said I do like the look of these shocks. Especially with the blue rings and caps w/ the gold shafts.

With those 2 tires it comes down to what one you like to look at more. The 3bro's 3d printed foams are the real star.

Does the straight axle Phoenix have smaller threads on the end? I found the portals have 5mm threads, if I’m not mistaken. Regardless, the SSD hubs I’d use on any other kit did not fit.

F10 straight axles use a standard m4 axle/wheel nut. F9 and f10 portals use m5. SSD makes m5 sized hubs also.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I discovered the 5mm hubs soon after figuring out the portal truck. Glad to hear the straight axles are "standard".

A small update. Powerhobby released a new servo called the 250LP and I liked the idea of low profile servos used in a proper application (shifting) and they are relatively cheap (around $55 at the LHS) and all black!

And with the previous units

Also saved 25 grams but I have to lengthen the OD servo lead about 2 inches, figures.
