The Lost UTARD - Pinch's SWSC Class 3 The Big Dummy

Yep you read right The Lost UTARD. As legend goes there have only been known 2 UTARDS in existence. These UTARDs were built my Kaetwo and myself nearly 3 years ago.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-...%92s-msd-scale-nats-ttc-entry-sami-buggy.html

But what many people don't know is that there was a third build a little bit after the original UTARDs were built. It was slightly different then the original twins but not much. With very slightly different details and measurements you probably could't tell just by looking. The major difference was I used a full length SCX10 Chassis in stead of the chopped chassis' used on the two originals. I did this to enable a longer wheel base. Then it went into hiding shortly after completion to sit on a shelf for years.

So now the UTARD XL, or The Big Dummy as I call it (named after a land wheelbases bike built by Surly) has found it's way back home and it is time to build it up for real.

Now what to do....
It is at slider stage right now. It is set at JK/Honcho wheelbase (12.3") right now with bone stock axles and trany. I will probably be running Pro-Line Interco TSL SX Super Swamper XL 1.9 tires, so I think with tires on the tall end of the Class 2 limit, 12.3" for the wheelbase will be the shortest I will go. I will have to experiment with the wb a bit though to find my optimal number.

Chassis:
Obviously a Reign Labs UTARD (XL) tube chassis

Motor/esc:
I haven't decided yet.

Wheels:
Currently, Axial 8 hole beadlocks with fubar rings, but who knows.

Axle upgrades:
HD gears and/or overdrive in front (or under drive in rear???)
Aluminum knuckles and C's
Maybe front XR10 steering conversion?

Trans & drivelines:
Robinson spool & MIP drivelines...maybe?

I will have to see how budget goes so all plans may change.

BTW...this will probably be a slow build as a lot of my spare time is going into helping to get the Southwest Scale Championships going.

So here is The Big Dummy as it sits now.

Nice to see one of you guys back at it. Get K-2's butt back at it as well. I miss the bickering between you guys!

Mounted the wheels up to take a look at WB proportions and tire size etc. Axial 8 hole beadlocks with fubar rings with Pro-Line Interco TSL SX Super Swamper XL 1.9 tires. I think the size is perfect on the Big Dummy...wheelbase looks pretty good to but we will see.

Also beat ass Trail Ranger hood pic. I also snipped up a Dingo hood to see how it looks... Fits great actually...almost like it was built for it.

Speaking of Trail Ranger hoods... does anyone have any busted ass Trail Ranger bodies laying around with a good hood?

Definitley love the profile of this chassis. Tires and wb look proportional, as you stated.

The D-I-N-G-O, D-I-N-G-O hood looks a touch meaner. The other hood looks like a cleaner fit but less manly.

The 1.9ms still do look quite proportional on there. How does it look with the narrow track width?" From the front?

Shoot me a PM, if it works it's yours for the cost of shipping. "thumbsup"

Not bad... I'd like to widen it a bit but it may go out of spec for the C2 class. I have about 3/8" I could widen to front before I'm out of spec. Maybe some different offset wheels.
This rule:
Class-2 “Trail” Details:

• Body/cage work must be at least 4.5" tall (including boat sides) and the inside of the front tires cannot extend outside of the width of the cab at the doors.

Here are some picks:

It doesn't look bad at all. Those tires are kind wide.

Just braze on some really big door handles:mrgreen:

I should never have gotten rid of my Kaetwo frame. Didn't have it for long but kick myself for letting it go so quick. I could have kept it in storage but oh well. Looking forward to this.

How would a Wraith hood look on there? I have an extra if you're interested.
